Re: [MBZ] W123 headlights?

2020-10-07 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
Yeah, the Czech or Latvian or whatever they are Cars245 guys can get lots of
good stuff. They got me a set of Magnetti-Marelli Euro headlights for my R129
when you couldn’t find Euro lights for an R129 anywhere else. Always order
from their web site rather then auction on eBay they do as things are cheaper
on their web site.

Lamin-X is the film to put on those Euro lenses and others. Best stuff there is.

Yeah. Those guys found a new OE US spec reverse light housing for me. Just

RHD cars have the steering wheel on the right, and the low side of the
headlight beams on the right, for driving on the left side of the road.

Right, We have LHD (where is the steering wheel?) vehicles and drive on
the right.   In GB and the former crown colonies, japan, etc, they have
RHD and drive on the left side of the road.  Confusing? yep!

hate all of that. I've even talked to cops about

Are there even DOT regulations on headlights anymore? Seems like

With modern high-intensity/LED headlights does it really matter? I find
night driving very difficult with all the piercing, blue-tinged
headlights right in your eyes or mirrors. The glare is like nothing I've
ever seen with regular incandescent headlights.

Are there even DOT regulations on headlights anymore? Seems like
anything goes, the brighter the better.

Re: [MBZ] W123 headlights?

2019-08-13 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
I bought Hella conversion headlights for the former W123 on Amazon. The seller
was selling versions that were made in India, and were RHD headlights. When I
got mine I realized it immediately, returned them, and notified Amazon that
this seller was selling non-DOT compliant headlights.

Of course they didn’t take the seller’s offerings down. I found another seller
that was offering the correct headlights and got them from them.

I just wonder how many people are driving around here with their Hella
conversion headlights and blinding oncoming drivers….

yes I did see some offered used from Romania and
Lithuania. Unfortunately most of them are the Euro

over there and so a lot of new and used parts for
them.

I'll keep Jerry Steele in mind also.

Re: [MBZ] W123 headlights?

2019-08-12 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
Mercedes never “stopped doing it”, they never did it to begin with as far as I
know, and anyone telling you that doesn’t know what they’re talking about.
(Jaime, please step in here if you have time and correct me if I’m wrong.)

This was one of the ways they responded to gray market cars in the 1970s. If
the part wasn’t something that was sold on domestic (U.S.) cars, the dealers
simply can’t get it. It’s in the EPC but it’s not available to them and is
marked accordingly. Now occasionally you’ll find a part that does slip through
for one reason or another, but that’s with you giving them a part number, not
something they’ll see in the EPC or Paragon. For that matter, I’ve seen Euro
parts in Paragon (their distribution system software) but they’re NLA for North
America. For whatever reason there was one here and as a result the entry is
still in the system.

But - they can’t order it. And think about the logic - you’re going to be
visiting in the States from Europe and you’ll pick up a pair of springs to
carry home with you because they’re cheaper here?

Yeah, methinks this parts person has been sniffing 000 989 92 71 09.

Re: [MBZ] W123 headlights?

2019-08-12 Thread MG via Mercedes
OK I can see that for the headlights but they said
the same thing about a couple of rear springs that
I wanted. Was told there were no TDs sold over
here with the heavy load option so they couldn't
order them. He said something about MB stopped
doing that to keep people from coming here to
visit, buying the parts here because they were
less expensive and then take them back home with them.

No, if Cars245 can get it, it will be glass, original Bosch, fit perfectly
and look great.

I don't see any 123 euro headlights listed on their website, so you may
need to reach out directly to see if they can get them.

If they’re both Euro style headlights I don’t see that it would make a
difference. There might be slight differences in the lenses, but that wouldn’t
be visible to the average person, I would think.
