My 911 has classic tags in Va with similar exemptions as yours in Tx - I 
probably drive it a little more than I am supposed to but haven't been 
caught, *yet *;-)


Our 91 300D is close to qualifying but since my wife drives it to work 
daily that won't work.   I'm disabled so work is not a problem.

In Michigan, you can buy an historic vehicle plate the January after it's
25 model years old. (my 1986 2.3 was eligible last January) But if you put
such a plate on it, you aren't supposed to use it except for historic
automobile events and the occasional pleasure tour. If the cops see one
downtown during commuting hours more than once, I'm sure they'd pull you
over. Oh, and no inspections in Michigan unless you're trying to retitle
salvage as rebuilt.

Florida has no such designation, only antique which is limited to the sorts 
of vehicles you would see in a parade.

Wisconsin used to have a good classic registration, but they restricted the 
months of the year you could drive it in.  In other words, times like December 
through February were a no-no.  It was cheap, though - something like $45 for 
2-3 years if I recall.

It used to mean 'the last one rolled off the line 20 years ago, so be glad we 
still have parts at any price'.

But the W140 is 20 years from inception, not 20 years from obsolescence.

I suspect it's an end of life sort of thing. When they see the revenue from 
the parts going down below a certain point it's no longer profitable, so they 
push it off to the Classic Center.
