Re: [MBZ] resoldering W123 ACC howto
Try using a battery. Some of the newer battery chargers won't put out unless connected to a battery. I have one like that. Also you need to trace the circuit with a meter set to read continuity see if there is a good connection between the the end of the plug to the respective brush ends on each wire. I have had a couple of motors over the years where there was an interruption of some kind in there. One was the flex wire attached to the brush. The brush was still good and long but wasn't getting a good connection all the time because the wire that was supposed to be on it had come out of the brush. Had to put a new brush in. Re: [MBZ] resoldering W123 ACC howto
Resoldered the ACC boards, and still no blower. So my next suspect is the blower motor brushes. If it responds favorably to bumps, or to kicking it under the dash, then it's brushes. (Or worse.) The brushes are pushed by a spring at the other end. That's where the failure starts. Either they get too short and the spring bottoms out, failing to put pressure on the brushes, or the brushes get cocked in their guides and jam. (Either way, poor contact, no blow.) You should be able to go to your local Ace or True Value hardware store that has the magic boxes of all sorts of obscure hardware and stuff. Resoldered the ACC boards, and still no blower. So my next suspect is the blower motor brushes. Allan, I had the same problem with my SDL and it turned out to be a melted fuse holder in the fuse box. Checked at Tru Value, they had some brushes but nothing close to what's on this motor. Looking at the brushes, they aren't worn down all that far, IMO. They don't have internal springs, they are in a pivoting carrier that has a spring holding it down against the commutator. There is over 1cm of the brush still remaining outside of the carrier. So if the brushes are not worn out, what else could cause the motor to not run at all? I've got the motor out and supplying 12v directly, so there are no fuses or switches or anything else in the equation.
