Re: [MBZ] schooling
Just because I was very interested in the success of my kids didn't make me the best one to teach them. While there are educators as you describe, I found them to be a very small minority in our kids public school expereinces - 4 kids over 22 years. The greatest barrier to learning was the kids whose parents had no interest in their kids learning anything, who held back the classes and were disruptive. The attitudes of the parents were directly reflected in the kids. But school is not just for the 3 R's. Children learn many things in school that they will not learn in isolation. Social skills being foremost in my mind at the moment. Re: [MBZ] schooling
And probably the most expensive way to accomplish mass education, plus the variation in quality of the tutors --- there is some value in standarization - the "degree" you receive is a measure of what you should have learned - so your future employer has some idea of what you might be capable of. At least in theory --- with automatic passing of everyone, there is no value in the "degree". However, 'education' today is attempted en masse rather than as Plato tutored his subjects. There is a bit more tailoring in each individual that can be accomplished, more flexibility in structure, capability to chase deeper understanding of things rather than move with the average student capability, etc. Tutoring has *always* been a preferred way to learn. mao ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
