You'll spend a lot less time just fixing the stock circuit than you would replacing it. The stock's problems are almost always with the connectors in the can. If the magnetic pickup has a problem, just fix/replace it. It's the most reliable form of pickup there is. The gauge is standard, it just measures the frequency of the incoming pulse train. (Though it's calibrated for 1 pulse per rev on can-equipped cars. It's calibrated for 144/rev [?] on later ones that use a pickup on the ring gear and got rid of the can.) -- Jim ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new parts see official list sponsor: http://www.buymbparts.com/ For used parts email [EMAIL PROTECTED] To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
Re: [MBZ] super simple circuit for a Tachometer
The 'simplicity' of the circuit can be a bit deceiving. The optical pick up is straight forward enough. However it does use a small-embedded 8-bit microprocessor and a binary image (HEX) file to program it. Analog tachometers are easy enough to make from 555 timer IC-S. The print gauges at www.sherline.com are cool however .. Re: [MBZ] super simple circuit for a Tachometer
That is way cool. I always wanted a tach for my 200D. Back in 1971, I bought a tach for my R-50/2 and I always thought that VDO tach could be made to drive off OM 621/61x engines by using the base of a gasser distributor stuck in the oil pump drive in place of the top plug. Then In the 80s I looked at the electric pickup Diesel tachs, but they were pricey. This looks like something even i could build, on a breadboard, at least. I could probably find someone around this town who could build (etch) a circuitboard for me. aesthetically, I think the 2 round black/white VDO would look more appropriate in the 200D than a digital tach though.
