The driveshaft came with a right-behind-the-front-flex-joint balancer that was dead. DSL balanced it without the balancer and it's worked fine. Craig

Curt Raymond wrote: So my Indy tells me (this is a heck of a Christmas present) that theres a rubber balancing deal on the driveshaft which is bad on my car. He says that he can't buy the part separately and an entire driveshaft is over $1k. So the question is can I use a driveshaft off a 190E for my '85 190D 2.2l? I have a 87 2.5 turbo that isn't going far under its own power again (rt front suspension destroyed in a crash) Don't know if it would help you or not. I suppose I should get the diesel running in its new home before I get rid of too many parts.
Re: [MBZ] 190D/E driveshaft?
huh? Thats a new one one me. The only rubber part I know about is either the flex disks or the center support. Both are quire replaceable and available seperate. Take it from me Kaleb, 201 5 speeds have a unique balancing disc right behind the front flex disc. It balances the driveshaft. It is NOT sold separately. If the disc fails, Mercedes requires that you buy a NEW front half of the driveshaft and balance disc or a complete new driveshaft with disc. You CAN buy just the disc for manual or automatic 124 driveshaft, or for a 201 automatic driveshaft, but NOT for a 201 5 speed (not sure about a manual 4 speed)! THEY ARE NOT INTERCHANGEABLE. The problem is that these discs are used to balance a particular driveshaft. If your's doesn't need one and some don't - that's GREAT, but a driveshaft that's really out of balance will be intolerable (with vibrations - sometimes really nasty - usually between 40-50 mph). One of the driveshaft shops that specializes in Mercedes (most can't do them), can usually make them tolerable, but it will NEVER be the way Mercedes balanced it at the factory.
