Marketingwise but not technologywise. 123 and 126 share suspension
designs, as do 124 and 201, and 107 and 115.

Not sure about the 116 and 210. (Long lost cousins maybe? I have in

Poog had Volvo beat, there. In addition to the two Poogs, my family,
had a '60 122S, a 142S, and a '69 164. The latter was the first year
they went up against the Mercedes 280, and although the Volvo's
suspension was in no way comparable, the leather buckets were
fantastic, and the car went like hell--0-60 in 8.8 seconds, which in
those days was damn near muscle-car fast. Exceptional, considering

2006-08-29 Thread OK Don

IMHO, the 115 chassis drives better than the 123.The 126 is better yet!
However, I'd FAR rather work on a 123 240D than a 115 240D, given the
choice! At least if the 115 has air conditioning. Even tightening the
alternator belt could be a pain on that car, and we won't even mention
the heater blower motor

OK - I could be wrong - my experiences were with the 220D and the 300D
115 cars - never actually laid hands under the hood of a 115 240D.

Re: [MBZ] 1974 240D $700 or 1982 300SD $800?

2006-08-29 Thread kevin kraly
I've never met a vintage Mercedes that didn't have front and rear windshield
gasket leaks. I forgot to ask Melody, the owner of the 240D, if the car has
been in dry, inside storage or outside under the elements. I'm hoping for
the former.

someone (stewart S I believe?) was discussing the 4 hour alternator
replacement on his 1976 300D.

That York gets in the way of _everything_! I'm thinking
that alternator work on those is best done from below.

looks good, starts dependably and has no issues other than a dying
battery
from being in storage for the past few years. Since it's not at the

week. The second is a 1982 300SD with 290K on it, it needs tires, it's
got
power window problems, a stuck sunroof, non-working ACC and cruise
control,
and I believe it also has an oil leak (no idea of where and how severe it
is). The guy has been trying to sell this car placing multiple ads with
no

The part I can't quite figure out is why you can't seem to
go too long _with_ a Mercedes diesel! :-)

You need to find one you really like, and then stick with
that awhile maybe. Turnover costs (various) are gonna getcha.

Re: [MBZ] 1974 240D $700 or 1982 300SD $800?

2006-08-28 Thread kevin kraly

Sunil,

I've always wanted a nice W115, and this may just be it. The exterior and
interior are both the creamy yellow/beige color, and if it looks and runs as
nice as Melody tells me, she can consider it sold. It will get an oil and
filter change, new fuel filters, oilbath air filter cleaning, valve
adjustment/timing chain check, fresh fuel and some Italian tune-up action!

Kevin in Hillsboro Oregon, ready for my first W115

2006-08-28 Thread kevin kraly
You're right, Jim. Finding the right one is KEY, and if it's the wrong one,
it should be one that's worth some bucks. I really do want one to have
around for a while. The 73 220D wasn't the right W115, but hopefully, this
one will be a keeper.

Kevin in Hillsboro, Oregon, hoping for a long term MB diesel car
relationship soon

See or do a search on Big Lot

Car is still for sale, guy called me today he would reduce price. Might be
worth a look see, I think the tranny made need work or some vacuum
adjustments if applicable for that model. If you are looking for a 115
chassis this is pretty nice very very little if any rust., I drove her not
bad, but needs some work, minor stuff as these cars always need.
