Re: [MBZ] 1984 300D fuel injector operation
Does this page help? Are you sure you didn't switch the feed and return hoses from the tank? If the fuel level is below the tank's return and hoses are switched you can't get fuel out of the tank. If the manual primer on the lift pump doesn't move fuel, I'd start there The feed from the tank strainer goes through the small inline primary fuel filter and then to the lift pump. From there to the big canister secondary fuel filter (see first sketch in attached). Then a single line runs to the IP. The big low-pressure cigar hose runs from the nipple on the secondary filter bracket to the metal return line on the fender well. The rubber return hose from the injectors connects to a small nipple on the secondary bracket. I can take a photo of my 82 SD if needed. -Original Message- From: mercedes-boun...@okiebenz.com [mailto:mercedes-boun...@okiebenz.com] On Behalf Of Mike Esh Sent: Saturday, August 11, 2012 10:39 PM To: okie benz Subject: [MBZ] 1984 300D fuel injector operation Does anyone have a drawing, diagram, or schematic of the fuel flow from the tank through the injection pump and back? Well, there's not much to it. Are you working just under the hood? Or the tank fitting too? I just did a quick survey of my fleet, '78 to '85. Under the hood, there are two hard-lines that go aft. The upper one is the tank return line, the lower one is supply. The supply line is connected via a rubber hose to the pre-filter. The output of the pre-filter is hosed to the primer pump. The output of the primer pump is connected to the aft side-mount fitting on the spin-on filter housing with clear plastic hose. Forward, but still on side mount on the spin-on housing is the hard-line filter outlet that goes to the injector pump inlet. The injector pump return, the injector return, and the cigar hose all connect to a top-mount fitting on the spin-on-filter housing. The cigar hose connects to the hard-line return to the tank. I have some photos if you are interested. -- Philip ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
Re: [MBZ] 1984 300D fuel injector operation
There are only two hoses: feed and return. Try reversing the cigar hose and the infeed line (that has the filter on it). If your fuel is lower than 1/3 and you got those backwards, you'll get no fuel. The other lines should all be fixed-length clear hoses with banjo fittings on the ends... Hard to imagine how you could get them wrong since the lengths are not very generous. Did you replace the hand pump? That's the usual reason for air getting into the fuel. D. I removed all lines and hoses trying to find an air leak and now I cannot get fuel to pump by cranking or with the hand pump. I thought I had it labeled pretty well when i pulled things apart, however I have tried so many combinations that now I am totally confused. Any help would be appreciated.
