Does anybody have a writeup on subframe mounts? My 190D needs 'em and I was thinking of doing them myself. Re: [MBZ] 300SD rear camber, again
I thought there was one on the old mbz.org site, but I couldn't find it. It's not difficult, it just involves a lot of brute force sort of work. Start in advance and soak the bolt really, really well with penetrating oil. You'll need a breaker bar to get it loose, I guarantee. Lube up the new mounts with dishwashing soap so they'll slip in place easily. Along the same thread, you might want to consider replacing your differential mount, too. You would be amazed at the difference it will make in the way the back end handles. It's an easy job (under 30 minutes) and the results are quite noticeable. Re: [MBZ] 300SD rear camber, again
If you have the tool, you can somewhat easily do it in a day. And yes, my 201 lived in massachsetts for years. I actually had to replace the entire rear subframe due to rust. Surprisingly, this and the two front LCAs got rid of most of it. You'll need a floor jack, jack stands, some really big sockets (21 or 23 mm, can't remember offhand), plus an inverse torx socket. Call up Rusty and tell him you want the bolts too, it's better to use Rusty's bolts than to use rusty bolts. :) It's amazing the difference that the mounts and the links made in the car. Re: [MBZ] 300SD rear camber, again
You can patch things along a while by putting some twist-in spring spacers for a while. It will take 2-3 for each spring. This will reduce the tire wear on the inside. Re: [MBZ] 300SD rear camber, again
Interesting. I do not see any tire wear, I noticed the noticeable camber as the car was going down the street. It just looked a bit too much, but maybe I am being too paranoid about it since this is a new car. Put that with what seemed to be a bit of floaty on the highway at speed. Did a pretty good inspection underneath today, everything looked good, not that I guess I could see excess camber or bad mounts or joints or whatever. Perhaps I should take some meds -- I have some that came from Scotland that might help. --R Loren Faeth wrote: You can patch things along a while by putting some twist-in spring spacers for a while.
