Top speed was around 130, I think -- WAY too fast for that suspension!

The 300 SE(L) 6.3 was indeed the fastest production sedan until the 
Quatroporte came out -- and those have all rusted away by now, and were 
MUCH less safe than the 300!


0-60 in something like 6.2 seconds, if my memory serves me.  Quite slow 
for a performance car these days, but pretty spiff back in the dawn of 
electronic fuel injection (it was mechanical, a hangover.  The 6.9 was 
K-Jet).


Quite a beast, and under-rated, as the actual hp and torque were 
usually well above factory minimum spec of 300 hp and 400 ft/lbs.

I still would not mind owning one. I've had two 1972 280SEL 4.5's and they
were great cars. The 280SEL 4.5 was the same body, spring instead of air
suspension, slightly smaller 4.5 liter V8 engine.
