It's monitoring drive current. A blocked drain will cause the motor to work harder. I have a Whirlpool cheapo that had a similar issue, the drain pump would not drain. I replaced the drain pump, still no drain action. Only other parts left were the wiring and the control board. I tested the wires, they seemed to be fine, so I replaced the control board and the problem was fixed. If, for example, the power supply for the pump was faulty, how would the system know the difference between P/S and pump issues? There's a limit to how much self-diagnosis is possible, especially if they're trying to minimize the cost of the unit. About ten years ago I bought the cheapest dishwasher they had at lowers. About $200? KitchenAid, all plastic. Dirt simple. Works great as long as you don't over load it. No issues once I worked through a bad pump and a dead control board. It was a factory repaired model that I bought for $100 with no warranty, after buying the parts to fix it I was back at the original cost, should have just bought the new one. Ours is now 3 yrs old and still works great. Have you cleaned out the filtering screens in the bottom? Nope. My Bosch dishwashers have been relatively trouble free. First one we had developed some sort of problem with the heating element that was known and covered under warranty. Second one has been installed since December and hasn’t missed a beat.
