Re: [MBZ] Cheep 230 5-speed

It looks like a really cheaply built car from the era of garbage Mercedes but
the 5 speed is intriguing.

This is correct. There are issues with compressor shaft seals that have to be
dealt with. I believe it’s not that bad of a repair on a scale compared to say,
an M648(?) oil cooler, but it’s not fun.

I researched this somewhat when I started looking for R170s for Mrs. Dan and
what I found made me completely eliminate the SLK230s from consideration.

I think the engines are OK, and it's the Kompressors that are considered
normal wear parts.
I never liked the idea of crankshaft driven superchargers on passenger
car engines in the first place, but that's just me...

I am not sure what year it was but I think they were sold about 1999 to
2005 or so. I'd guess it might be a $1500 car now, but the owner, a high
priced shyster, bought it new.

However: the passenger side door pull was broken off at the top. I was
unable to determine if there were other flaws.

Having never been in even a 201, it was interesting to me. I had a
great experience with the Euro 123 230TE. Since they were
introduced, I have been interested in the C230 and SLK 230 Mit Komp.
#1 Daughter is still pining for the original SLK230 in Silver.
Someday she may get one.

The SLK at auction 2 weeks ago was back last week. It went up to
$5100 the second time, and I am guessing it was a no sale again the
second time. I will miss the sale this week.

In the 'merkin new car mkt, I am sure the 2.3 was at a disadvantage
to the asian cars with more displacement. The 'merun mantra is still
"there is no replacement for displacement" and those people will
never appreciate a stock performance engine like the M180 in 1962.
so the 230 Mit K. gave way to the 3.2 mit more cylinders/displacement
