Jebus you might as well paint the car!

BTW the raingutter trim is not that hard and requires no extra special
tools. Just a bit of wood (2x4) and a rubber mallet or dead blow hammer.

Re: [MBZ] Details, Details....

2010-07-17 Thread LWB250
I've done this for paint prep as well...

As for the rain gutter trim, I have fabricated the special tool outlined in
the TDM to install the trim, and installed it myself. That's why I don't
recommend people take it off. In my case, it had been removed so the car could
be painted, and putting the new trim on was a real PITA, not to mention an
opportunity to mess up the new paint job.

Why do you think people call me The Mercedes Martha Stewart?

OK I could have sworn the FSM had a picture with a dead blow hammer but
I can find the section now. What section is this covered in?

2010-07-17 Thread Lwb250
I do not recall. All I remember is having to fabricate a driver out
of hardwood that was used to hammer the trim on to the drip rail. The
black rubber part was separate from the anodized aluminum and snapped
on to it after the trim was secured to the drip rail.

It is possible the information on the tool was in the service manual.

Lots of good stuff there.

One question, though. Step 1b.) says,

   b.) 3M Machine Polish - If you have a non-clear coat finish
that is chalky or faded, machine polishing will do a lot
   to recover an oxidized finish.

What if you have a clear coat finish?
