I think they mean LPG -- And what in the world does, Believed to be the only Mercedes V12 professionally converted to run on autogas, mean? -- OK Don, KD5NRO Norman, OK The Americans will always do the right thing... after they've exhausted all the alternatives. Re: [MBZ] Double Trouble V12?
OK, so you convert a car that got maybe 10 - 12 MPG in town to LPG and now you can only drive 150 miles between fill-ups? If you can afford a Mercedes with a V-12 then you probably aren't too concerned about fuel economy anyways. Ah - but you gain access to alternative fuels - if there is no gas in town, you can still run on LPG. Kind of like having a Diesel, because you know that you can run on veggie oil if you have to. I don't understand the switching back to gasoline before shutting it down, and having to start of gasoline though --- On 4/30/06, Tom Hargrave [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: OK, so you convert a car that got maybe 10 - 12 MPG in town to LPG and now you can only drive 150 miles between fill-ups? Re: [MBZ] Double Trouble V12?
It is generally accepted that an engine is easier to start on petrol than gas, also petrol tends to protect the valves when they are cold. This is not so much a problem on engines specifically designed and build to run on LPG (Ford and Mitsubishi in Oz make dedicated LPG vehicles that do not have petrol tanks). Almost all Aussie Taxis (and most couriers) run on LPG and do get a good run out of it because their engines do not get stone cold, however the morning and evening commute crowd do tend to have problems if they do not switch between LPG and petrol. OK Don wrote: I don't understand the switching back to gasoline before shutting it down, and having to start of gasoline though --- Most LPG-powered engines use coolant heat to vaporize the LPG before it gets to the engine. I suspect that has something to do with it. David Brodbeck '83 300D Turbo
