Re: [MBZ] Fwd: Important Safety Message About Jack Stands

2020-07-07 Thread Allan Streib via Mercedes
The problem is that those same jackstands were almost certainly sold
under other names by other retailers.

I have some jackstands that look identical. Got them at some parts
retailer, not sure which one. Never had a problem with them, and I
always double check that the pawls are firmly engaged, but since we
don't know how exactly how these defective ones are failing, it's now
hard to be confident in them.

It's easy... just look for a stamp that says "Made in China" as soon as
you find that, you know they were built with zero quality control and are a
potential death trap...
Harbor Fright will take any jack stand you have from them back and give you
cash or new jack stands... virtually no questions ask...
Way cheaper for them to do that than absorb the liability of having sold a
product that crushed you to death.

So, how do I know if my (not at all new) HF jackstands are a problem?
Aren't any numbers molded into them. Not very nice of them to withhold
the dates over which the problematic units were sold.
