Got a warning from Avast! antivirus that a Trojan Horse from Baum was blocked: Infection Details URL:http://www.baumtools.com/get_catalog.php Process:C:\Program Files\Google\Chrome\Applicati... Infection:HTML:Iframe-ABI [Trj] I would guess that Baum doesn't know about this. Re: [MBZ] Grommet Install tool for shifter bushings
It looks like a pair of pliers with a box end wrench on one jaw and a short stud with a washer base on the other. Put the bushing on the stud, reach up and start the bushing in the hole and pres the handle. You're done. Hope the link comes through. kind of pricy but probably a good idea if you intend to do a lot of them or just want to do it the easy way and like tools. Since I didn't I just used a socket on one side for the receiver and a pair of channel locks to squeeze. Not as easy and a bit fiddly but free. http://mercedessource.com/store/automatic-transmission-shift-rod-bushing-replacement-tool-kit-free-bushings-included Manfred Date: Tue, 02 Jul 2013 13:53:19 -0500 From: Randy Bennell rbenn...@bennell.ca Mentioned in one of the earlier posts. Re: [MBZ] Grommet Install tool for shifter bushings
My version of that would be such: (new modification for easier use) 2 1/4-20 bolt 1 or 1-1/8 fender washer 1 PVC cap with hole drilled for 1/4 bolt 1/4-20 nut Instructions: place fender washer on bolt followed by new shifter bushing. Slide bolt through bushing opening on the shifter arm. Place PVC cap and 1/4-20 nut onto end of bolt to create a sandwich around the shifter arm. The idea is that tightening the bolt/nut will push the bushing into the arm. The PVC cap creates space where the bushing can be pushed by straddling the opening. Is that more clear? Now why did nobody tell me that existed when I had to change mine last summer? I did it with two pairs of Harbor Freight bent-top needle-nose pliers and a LOT of swearing, but I can see how it would be a cinch with the right tool. Re: [MBZ] Grommet Install tool for shifter bushings
I made one using a short (1/2 or 3/4) length of 1 PVC pipe, some washers, a bolt, and nut. Kinda have to hold your mouth right, but it worked to get the bushings in place. I cannot provide pictures, the tool (if it's still together) is in Arkansas Luther KB5QHUForest Park, IL '98 ML320 Max (167,xxx mi) On 7/2/2013 1:53 PM, Randy Bennell wrote: Mentioned in one of the earlier posts.
