Only if you didn't actually READ the press release. They're not ending
production they're SELLING production. Lenovo did an admirable job when they
took over from IBM, no reason why HP should be different.
Their workstations are substantially better than any other PC maker, especially
right now, the Z400 and Z800 that we spec are actually better than their Mac
counterparts.

...They decided to quit the not so profitable consumer pc biz and cancel
their bablet upstart, selling tablets for $99.? Market devalued HP by
 20% upon these announcements...

So, acquiring an HP PC and expecting any sort of after sales support seems
a bit optimistic. Similar to buying an Oldsmobile or Pontiac or anything
French.

The thing is that unless the purchaser of their PC division is allowed
to use the H-P name, a terrific brand with tremendous goodwill (in the
business sense) attached is being squandered. They may have lost a
lot of momentum in the past ten years, but to people old enough to
remember the old Laserjets, HP's first bulletproof laptops, etc. the
brand is still a marker of quality.

Next thing you know, they'll stop making the 12C calculator...

Bah, humbug. The new 12Cs aren't like the old ones. They're
superficially similar, but they have a different processor and
different firmware. You can even switch them to an algebraic entry
mode instead of RPN! Heresy!

I bought a new 11C in the 1980s for $40.
I bought a used 15C in 1991 for $40 with manual.

Even my old 11C had enough program memory to duplicate a 12C, plus it had
scientific functions that weren't available on a 12C, which cost the same as a 15C.

Actually, they are considering selling or spinning off the PSG unit. They
expect to make a decision in 12 to 18 months. Nothing is a sure deal yet. I
still can't get an answer whether it includes the commercial lines or just
the consumer lines, the thin clients, etc.
