I have to agree that AirTran is better than most, but so far I haven't flown on a single one that had seats far apart enough for a tall person unless you were willing to pay for a first class seat. Since the flying I do anymore is mainly for pleasure, I simply don't fly anymore except for weddings, funerals, and such. The same thing goes for cars. The last Mercedes which had enough leg/knee room for a tall guy was the '73 240D. Recently drove a '13 C model Mercedes loaner and it had less room than a Prius. Sad. I was at Hobby airport in Houston once, waiting for my Southwest flight. A rather large woman and her rather large daughter were checking in for their flight. The woman at the desk told them they would each have to buy an extra ticket as they were too large to fit in the seat and as such would displace or inconvenience some other paying customer. They both went ballistic and started the shaniqua theater. The desk woman just stood there looking at them, everyone else was sorta enjoying the spectacle too. After a minute or so of the histrionics the desk woman told them they could either pay, leave, or go sit down and think about, but in any case they would need to calm down or she was calling security. So they go sit down and are continuing with the performance though a bit more subdued. Well wonderful delta cancelled tomorrow too. If they would have flown in and out this morning like originally planned should have been fine. I have the flights to booked on Southwest, but haven't yet booked the return flights (Southwest shows no return flights on their schedule, so I have to figure out things myself.) I didn't find Belize to be that bad, considering. Well, Belize City is a SH that one should not go to but the countryside was fairly nice and the people seemed to be getting by fairly well. And the brewery is right next to the airport so you can load up on the way away. DR is run by 7 (?) families going back to colonial times, everyone else is superfluous. And if you are black, having escaped the other end of the island, you are worse than superfluous. Notice on the roads the houses built right up against them in what would be the right-of-way here -- that land is public so people build their houses there. Trucks rolling through these little villages at 70mph, the drivers would speed up to be macho. One of those families was my customer. Working around these guys was like being with the mob. Everyone treated them with reverence almost. They owned the largest ferreteria in the country. Made Sam's Club look like a corner drugstore in comparison. In the middle of the main selling floor the old man (grandfather) sat at a desk on a dais. All the salespeople had these receipt books where they wrote up your order, even if it was something in plain sight on the shelf. When they finished, they ran over to the dais and presented their book to the old man. He would take the big Dominican (and occasionally Cuban) cigar out of his mouth, look down and initial the receipt. Then, and only then could you check out and pay for your things. Only place I ever got the trots, too. Dummy me - I was at the customer's house one day and had a Coke with ice in it. Got dysentery from the ice. Hell of a weight loss program - I lost 15 pounds over the next week or two, and was lucky to get the company doctor to treat me. He kept telling me that the cure was as bad as the disease. Not so. OTOH, I have flown flew several trips recently on AirTran and they were FABULOUS: on time, polite, professional, caring, tolerant of exces carryons, and humorous (one of the FAs delivered a cleverly embellished safety announcement). Kaleb, The local weather and NWS is talking about tonight and Wednesday being the worst it's been since the great ice storm of '73 (which old folks still discuss with fear in their eyes) when some were without power for over 2 weeks. This is projected to be a rare event. I'm East of Atlanta, projected for about 1/2 inch of ice and then 1-3 inches of snow on top of that. Personally, I'm hunkering down. I've been through snow jam 82, the cold freeze of '85, and the more recent ice storms of I think 2001 or 2002. I'm a Northern boy, but these Southern weather events are more scary because no one is ever really prepared for them (generators, tire chains, etc. etc.). And we have so many pine trees that take down the power lines which a lot of the north does not have. Anyway, if I were you, I'd try to avoid Atlanta for the next 2 days. You apparently haven't flown US Air enough. Every time they've tried to take me through Philadelphia they strand me there. The first time it took 16 hours to get to Las Vegas (a 6 hour trip) and 24 hours to get home. Then 24 hours to get to Cincinnati. They tried like hell to strand me in Charlotte at one point telling me it'd be 10 DAYS before they could get me home. I explained that I could buy a bicycle and pedal home faster. Everybody who travels any amount has an airline they will not fly. This is projected to be a rare event. I'm East of Atlanta, projected for about 1/2 inch of ice and then 1-3 inches of snow on top of that. Personally, I'm hunkering down. I've been through snow jam 82, the cold freeze of '85, and the more recent ice storms of I think 2001 or 2002. I'm a Northern boy, but these Southern weather events are more scary because no one is ever really prepared for them (generators, tire chains, etc. etc.). And we have so many pine trees that take down the power lines which a lot of the north does not have. Anyway, if I were you, I'd try to avoid Atlanta for the next 2 days.
