Need to check my credit card account and make sure of that, but it still makes the three years cost $36 more than I expected. Apparently I could have left the registration with 1&1 and moved the hosting to Hostgator, but given the circumstances I wanted a clean break from 1&1. I still want to pay 1&1 for the 8 months I haven't paid for yet, if I can ever get a bill from them for the 8 months. Curt Sent from Yahoo Mail on Android On Tue, Mar 31, 2020 at 11:32 AM, Mitch Haley via Mercedes wrote: Comedy of errors here. Firstly, 1 und 1 didn't charge me for my hosting package last summer. My fault because my credit card expired and I didn't give them the new expiration date. I find out about it when they send it to collections a month later. I try to pay it, and the system tells me I have to pay the collector, 1und1 won't accept payment from me directly. I probably should have called them and told them that wasn't going to happen. After a few months with nothing happening, I figure I'll just pay for two years when it comes up for renewal again in July. March 8, 1 und 1 deletes my account without warning. I call them up, and they tell me they'll set up my bill so I can pay it and send me a link to pay. Never got anything from them, and it's been 3 weeks now. So, after wasting a week waiting for 1und1 to send me a bill, I transfer my domain to HostGator. That goes reasonably well, Wed March 25th my transfer is complete. Hurray. Cheap price too: https://www.hostgator.com/promo/pcmag But my registration doesn't propagate. I talk to them Thursday afternoon, they tell me everything's good, just wait. Tuesday, with zero progress in propagation, I talk to HostGator again. Guess what, my registration isn't going to begin propagating until they reset my registration to point to their servers. Minutes later, I have functional email. That should have happened when I talked to them Thursday. (actually, it should have happened Wed when they finished processing my domain transfer...) Come on guys, Now if you want the real comfort and handling full size MB, you get the 116. I've had my 1980 300SD for about 18 years now. Still solid as a rock and a pure joy to drive or just ride in when the wife drives (really her car). I've ridden in 126 300SDs, but found them nothing special. I don't like the design of the front seats as they tend to tear easier and the backs of the rear seats tear from the Sun's heat. Also, all the plastic lower panels and bumpers make them look less MB than the other older models. Yes, it's all personal preference, but except for that crazy Chrysler servo, the 116 SD is pretty much a bullet proof car. Mine still has the original exhaust system with around 425,000 miles. It's always been run on dino oil and never had the head off. Just another opinion. Best Wishes, Roger Roger Hale Dinnerware Classics, Inc. Sadly I have not seen a W116 down this way in a decade or so. They all rusted away. They rusted away in Germany, too. Ditto for the W115s -- tin worms love them. W108s were stronger, but have all gone by now, I'm going to have to put mine in the recycle, there isn't enough left to fix. A W116 was indeed a wonderful car, but I prefer the W126 -- much lighter, better fuel milage, and they last forever. Re: [MBZ] I'm back in black
Dan, You are correct about the Southern car. It was purchased from the dealership here in Atlanta when new. A doctor owned it for it's first 16 years and I've had it ever since. It does not have rust. The only front suspension work was the tie rods. But, I don't do Italian tuneups (less drive train stress to use an additive) and it always gotten 3K oil/filter changes. And yes, it's gone through several servos ( I can change one out in about 25 minutes), which hasn't been a problem because George Murphy warrants his servos. It gets good mileage if I take it on a trip. But mostly, it's made with better steel than the newer versions. I trust my wife's life it the 116, not sure I'd do that in some of the thinner, newer models, even if you add the airbags. Well it's generally better to take a 4x4 on dirt tracks so the mog would have been the go, or my old Diesel Patrol with bullbar. However a 123 Diesel with sump guard would do as well. Re: [MBZ] I'm back in black
I never said that a worn 201 is the best handling. Rear steer is an issue with the multi link suspension but that should be fixed, can be fixed and is not that expensive to fix. Used to have a manual 190E and that thing handled like it was on rails and was a real fun car to drive, let down by cramped interior. Also not as comfy as the 123, which soaked up the bumps and stuff real well. The 123/126 are cruisers but not meant for going quick around corners. Thats too bad, a properly setup 201 is an absolute delight to drive. That said I'm starting to believe few people can really work on them. My '85 was right when I first got it but my Indy was loathe to replace all the rear rubber bits in one go so it was never right again after the first link let go. The '84 I had him redo everything, rear links and subframe mounts. I think this car was hit at some point so its never been quite right. Fred tells me he knows of a genius alignment guru, I'm thinking to take it to him and see if maybe new tires and a really good alignment by somebody who knows more than the computer can get it there. -Curt Date: Mon, 21 Apr 2014 18:55:10 -0400 From: Meade Dillon dillonm...@gmail.com To: Mercedes Discussion List mercedes@okiebenz.com Subject: Re: [MBZ] I'm back in black Message-ID: cahonrr5seoz6tq0r6vf2oc6-tabqblpvsuekx9q+ry93maq...@mail.gmail.com Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 Amen Jim! Wiring up the lights nicely took much more time, as I soldiered directly to the pins in the taillight connectors. Its hard to melt that 30 year old solder in those lovely silver pins. It was in a barn and covered in bird and bat droppings for several years. I got it running in place and drove it out onto a trailer. I got it home, replaced a huge number of parts to make it reliable. It was somewhat of a rush job, as I had to get the car on the road to be used in the final episode of The Americans season 2. (Look for the brown W108 shot from behind). I got the car all back together, brand new tires on it, and drove it about 200 miles total over the course of a week. Everything was great, except it would run hot. Not too bad, and the car made it on TV. After much diagnosis, I decided the head gasket was at fault. I pulled the head last weekend and I'm waiting for the machine shop to give me the ok to put it back together. While I'm waiting I'm doing other odds and ends, including cleaning up the injectors in my new ebay purchase: an ultrasonic cleaner. I drove my 67 300SEL last weekend for about 125 miles... the first real driving in warm weather now that the roads are free of salt. I'm happy to report it does very well. The hydraulic fan coupler which I had to rebuild twice actually works and doesn't leak. After coming off the highway, the fan was clearly engaged and pulling air. You can probably find a nice '95 wagon for the same or less money than an equivalent 123 wagon, and you'll get dual airbags and anti lock brakes, which the 123 almost certainly will not have. Well not to start a 123/124 flame but I love /loved the looks of my 123 sedans and CD. That said, for the last 8 years my daily driver has been a 124 sedan that I think is butt ugly. Early 124 wagons suffer from cracking rear subframe mounts. Later years had beefier metal in back, no cracking. Plus they look much better than the early models, came with stock euro headlights. I do not really drink much myself but they were more like $10-14 for drinks on this ship. Plus they Charge you 15% gratuity on any purchase, and they charge $11 per day per person automatically for gratuity. Then the kids activity past 10 pm cost money. When we got off in Mexico it cost me close to $300 for a simple beach excursion. I don't know if all beaches in Cozumel are the same or just this one but it was not a sandy beach like I wanted, it was one of those rocky beaches, mainly for snorkeling. Carnival? We did Royal Caribbean last year and Norwegian in 2011. The trick with shore excursions is to not book them with the cruise line. If its an activity like cave tubing in Belize you can book with another outfitter, have a better experience and spend less money. For a beach excursion you book at the edge of the cruise port. They'll haggle and you can find a better spot for way less money. Cozumel is rocky, we went to the dolphinarium, and yeah it was expensive but it was worth it. -Curt Date: Fri, 21 Mar 2014 12:11:30 -0400 From: Kaleb C. Re: [MBZ] I'm back in Miami
Wow, well I am done with delta for sure. We did not have any problems this time except some Cubans stole Regina's phone in the Miami airport. On the flight from atl to tul we were on a a319, pilot was a very nice fellow. When we were boarding he was out talking to the passengers, said he was going to make it like a Disney ride, just joking and having a good time. Then said no it would be nice and smooth. There was a storm and he had to vector around it but did have a little rough air, nothing bad. My 5 year olds ears were popping with the pressure change. We were all the way in the back. And when we got off we were the last off and captain was out taking again, the 5 year old goes up to him and says you hurt my ears you are the worse driver ever! It was funny. So the captain sends him into the cockpit to look around the gives him a set of those kiddy wings. That was pretty cool. Back in the old days they used to do that sort of thing all the time. Re: [MBZ] I'm back in Miami
Carnival. I think they are more low cost and more for the party crowd. We did not book anything when we got off at key west, and did discover could do all the same stuff booked direct, much cheaper. At Cozumel, when you get off at the port, they have it rigged to where you pretty much have to book one of their tours. I did not see anywhere to book anything off the ship. Inside the port area they have a big shopping tourist trap area. We walked outside the port and shopped in several flea markets and were able to talk the Mexicans down quite a bit on their prices, much much cheaper than buying at the tourist trap places inside the port area. Re: [MBZ] I'm back in Miami
Ps, think I would do royal carribean or Norwegian next time, probably more mature crowd. One thing I wonder is about these people who work on these ship. They are from all over the world and since the ships are not registered in the us they probably pay them about 1-2 bucks per hour, which I guess for the 3rd world countries they come from that is probably good. So I figured they probably never get home to see their families. As far as the gratuity added automatically to the bill, cruise line says it goes to cabin Stewarts, workers etc but I bet most just pads the company profits. We complained and they took it off. We tipped cash directly to the guy who took care of our cabin all week. Sent from my iPhone On Mar 21, 2014, at 1:01 PM, Curt Raymond curtlud...@yahoo.com wrote: Carnival? When we got off in Mexico it cost me close to $300 for a simple beach excursion. This generally references A Government Agency whose employees might often decline to name it or share the knowledge of their association with it. My niece works for The Company but is fairly open about it. I had another friend who interviewed with them many years ago, waited for some time, went off for some period on some indeterminate activity, then took a job with another company that involved considerable international travel. Re: [MBZ] I'm back!
The woods is full of retired Company employees where I live. Some of them are open about where they worked, and some are downright paranoid. My interior decorator was retired from the CIA, as was her husband. Both were very open about it. A visiting nurse I knew told me about the first time she visited a certain retiree. All the shades were drawn, a light came on by a closed circuit camera on the porch, and she was asked a number of questions. Then a lock clicked and a voice told her to come in. The patient was sitting on a sofa with his hand under some newspapers. What tended to freak her out the most was that he never took his eyes off her the whole time. He provided his medical history but refused an exam; saying they would do that next time. Then he invited her to leave. Future visits got better but never to the point that he obviously trusted her; and there were always his eyes watching every move she made; something that always bothered her. Why did she suspect he was from a secret government agency? His insurance had a telltale FEP (Federal Employees Program) number, which wasn't specific for an intelligence agency, but very likely in this neighborhood.
