That was probably a later model then ours. I think it was something like late 50's early 60's. Tan two door. I think I still have a couple of the status lights from the dash around somewhere. I remember getting to drive it a couple of times under supervision. I think I would have liked it better if it had a floor shifter. That's about all I remember about it. Mom loved driving a stick shift, and thrashed the heck out of that car. My Dad was an exec for a division of GM at the time, and the execs were always getting cars from GM's failed efforts at importing. Really! An Opel Kadet. With the shifter on the column? My Mom had one also. Though it died an ignominious death when the fiber cam gear broke. It was a nice little car though. I remember that it was .18 to .23/gal early to mid forties and .24 to .26 early to mid fifties; in .30's in 1960's and in shock when it went to .47 in '73 or so. In '50/'51, I'd drive brother's '49 Ford all week for $1.00 (He had been re-called to Army; I was junior/senior in high school; very generous and kind brother had left car in my care, which I did very well, thank you - no kidding, I did, and he was well pleased when he returned.) Best I ever got on the 280 SE 4.5 was 17 on the highway, typically inĀ town it was 14 at best, as low as 11 Just like my '73 450SE. Of course, gas was a wee bit cheaper in the mid-'70s.
