Spent time at RE-PC discussing why my powerbook G3 will not upgrade to
OS X with some guy who is running stuff on old Iici and cx. Upgraded
to a 8100 with dual drives so he can boot into OS 7.6.1 for some
software he has had forever, and the other drive is OS 9.1.

Nice day to go shopping in Gump, so hit Goodwill and got a PB 5300 with
messed up screen for pennies. Runs fine, just need to find a screen.
Might load it into Gump to let the back seat people surf the web at
speed.

You must have at least 128 MB to load OX 10 on a G3 powerbook (except
the Kanga, you may not get that one to go at all).

10.3.x requires 256, and won't install otherwise, I've tried.

well, that's where you are mistaken. there is no debate here. people
who have a view use macs. people who just use whatever by default use
windows. there is absolutely no debate at all, just a procession of
witnesses for the mac.

i mean, i'm not a zealot. i couldn't care less what computer any of
you use. but it is curious that there is actually no debate here at
all on the question of which system to support.

Nice to get the speed bump and a burner for that price. Dude left all

Least I could do for such a fine machine as a gift.

Need to get in line where they recycle old but still good cars in CA
and try to save the Mercedes. Now that would really be a fine machine
as a gift, or for $200, or whatever the gov't is buying them up for.
I've been tempted to go to one of those 'gun buybacks' where they trade
$50 gift certificates for guns and offer $100 cash for anything worth
$200 or more.

Clay,

I've got one of the last eMac's made, 1.42 Ghz G4. Very happy with it,
good solid machine. In case this happens again in a future Apple Store
visit, use your thumbnail to fold the CD tray door down, there is a
sticker on the inside of the door that will tell you what it shipped
from the factory with. Though, obviously this can't tell you of any
upgrades a previous owner may have performed it will give you a good
base.

outsides would.

2007-01-28 Thread OK Don

Cause we don't talk about hardly anything that is new, and when we do,
we gripe about it (new labels on Mobil 1).

I've found Vista to be lacking critical HW drivers for HP Tablet PCs,
and have had it lock up (or just get really slow) a couple of times.
It's not ready for prime time yet, IMHO.

oh, hell, i'm not even going to look at vista until i have to. as
long as the one or two things i have to do on windoze can still be
done on XP, that is the end of the line for me. I imagine i have at
least 5 years.

what can vista do that XP or win2k can't?

Moreover, what can vista do that OS X can't?
