Re: [MBZ] OMG I have sooooooo been waiting for this!

2016-06-07 Thread Joel Cairo via Mercedes
There was a PGA golf thing down the road a coupla years ago, 3 or 4, and
MB was a sponsor. They had a load of Cs and Es and a few Ss all silver
for running the playas and VIPs around. They had them all parked at the
airport before and after, I guess the motor pool for running them back
and forth. I saw a parade of them running down the road one day, 30 or
so in a pack. They had a big tent set up at the venue, a few cars and
some displays on stuff. No clothing, though it probably would have been
a big hit over there among all the swells.

There was free parking at the remote lot for Benzes, I drove the old TD
over which I thought fit in quite well.

Yeah. Junk like stuff cobbled together is a rat rod. The
complete body, including hood and roof, of one car with a
not-so-very-uncommon engine swap does not seem to fit the

The hood and front fenders from the 240S attached to a F-250

I have seen them both ways.
Usually, semi gloss or satin black paint, or no paint.
Some are really odd combinations and some are fairly complete original
cars just painted black and somewhat junkyard looking.
Others have had a whole lot of careful work done to make them look like
they are junk when they really are not.

I have some photos of an MB that was offered for sale here that is sort
of a rat rod. I will try to remember to post them here.

Glad you caught this, but I'm confused.

I don't understand how a missing caliper bolt would make the wheel wiggle.
There's no relationship between the caliper and the wheel as far as the wheel's
position.

Please elaborate.

same time the boy had been doing 50 work weeks on the 0400-1400 shift. He
was too brain dead to be inquisitive about the cause.

Today, we attended a tech session at a local indy shop. I had him drive me
in the w140 on the chance he would be willing to toss it up on the lift. As
he was parking the car, one of the local officers got all excited that the
lower control arm had failed, based on the giant movement of the wheel in the
well. That gave him impetus to have it looked at. All the others who had
seen the floppy wheel were going on about how brave we were to have tried to
drive it. That we would be needing a ride back home, as it was in no way
 safe to drive.

On the ramp, the car was not doing what everybody thought it should be if the
LCA were failing. The upper ball joint is not that great on either side, but
will work for now. The wiggly wheel was due to the lower caliper bolt having
exited the vehicle, probably very early one dark morning. We had torqued all
the bolts, but this one needed to either have gone back on the ramps a few
times to get them retorqued, or had a dab of lock tite used. Shop had a
spare bolt and a dab of goo, so the wheel was no longer going to make us dead.

While on the lift, it was found that the shift bushings had escaped as well.
Shop owner, who was poking around the underside pulled the lever and popped a
new bushing on. Now the gears engage easier. He also confirmed that the
wire harness is garbage and to deal with the leaking head gasket, we will
want to find a new one and put it on. That should also deal with the
 blinking lights on the dash.

While looking at the 600 SC that was hemorrhaging M1 and ATF, I walked head
first into the bent 22 rim and rubber band tire. Ended up flat on my butt
sitting in a puddle of ATF. Now my neck hurts.

At least the complimentary beer, ribs, beans, and 'tater salad the owner
 cooked up were tasty.

I was not witness to the wheel wiggle visual. A person could tell that
something was not right and that there was movement of a sort at the wheel
point from inside the car. It felt to me that the caliper had come loose, or
that a bushing was allowing excess movement when changing direction from
reverse to forward motion, or when braking in reverse. While the whole circus
was going on, I was drooling over the three W113 that were waiting to go up on
the lift. Much consternation and looks of horror were had, which got my
attention, so I went to find out what the excitement was. Witnesses were
describing immanent catastrophe, so I took them at their word.

The 300D isn't an S-class - is it?

I'd say - buy it and put the engine in an old pickup truck. :)

I'm not really up to speed on those new-fangled, high-fallutin
cars.

Re: [MBZ] OMG it's a message that is related to cars!!!!!!!

2008-01-04 Thread Hendrik Fay
A couple of tips, the slide calculator can be made bigger, I found that
inserting the pictures into MS office allows me to adjust the height of
both parts to 21.8cm, which is 23% bigger and makes it easier to read.
Well actually I made the first part 21.8 high and had to adjust the
slide part to fit but it can be made bigger or smaller, as long as both
parts are the same height and the aspect ratio is locked.
Remember as the pictures are on their side the height will end up as the
width of the finished slide calculator. Do not be tempted to turn the
pictures because A4 is higher than wider.
I used photo paper to build this and it gives it a nice strong feel to
it. Have fun and don't cut yourself :-)

That is just so wrong on so many points, perhaps the worst being the 20
sq. Yards of matching bone nawgahide for the interior You could make a
set of sails for the thing with that much nawgahide. Musta been a
good deal on nawgas down in Jawja.
