Re: [MBZ] OT. Omega Seamaster or a Rolex of Some Sort?

2021-06-17 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
It’s a “Day-Date” 40 in white gold, a somewhat plebeian Rolex that is nice but
not over the top like the models in the Professional line. I wanted a Rolex but
didn’t want some super fancy version that I was going to get mugged for. The
Oyster Perpetual is a nice basic one, too, without the day/date functions. I
bought mine back in the early 1990s.

I will say that I found Rolexs’ don’t seem to be held in high regard by most
watch people. They require regular maintenance and can be easily buggered up by
an untrained repair person. Shane more or less reconditioned mine after it sat
for easily a decade. I gave it to the youngest son, who doesn’t wear it now,
either. At least not often, as far as I know. Just like Dad!

Richarde pops up on the Vet’s list every once in a while. You could always call
Shane, his watch guy in Toronto. He would gladly speak to you and give
recommendations, and who better since he makes a living fixing high end
timepieces. No email or Internet, he’s totally old school. Phone or snail mail

If you want his contact information let me know. Nice guy, easy to speak with,

That’s why I stopped wearing watches, even before cellphones became common. I

Re: [MBZ] OT. Omega Seamaster or a Rolex of Some Sort?

2021-06-17 Thread Meade Dillon via Mercedes
Nice shotgun or handgun, that would be my choice.

Our farewell gift plaque from the Navy Brig had a pair of handcuffs and a
piece of razor wire. Have to hang that one up high, just looking at the
razor wire too long will get you cut.

Once you retire, why would you ever want to look at a watch or clock again,
are you going to be late for work?

Buy a nice fishing rod instead, or something you will truly enjoy.

One of my dad's friends was a janitor in the NYC school system for years. When
those guys retired they'd give him a school doorknob mounted on a plaque. When
my dad retired his friend got one of the door knobs for him.

buying myself a retirement gift.
