Re: [MBZ] Screw it
Lock Jockey loves when people use graphite and WD40. Screws up the locks to no end, They love Tri-Flow. I flushed the crud out of my tumblers with it. Now that I am using a Stanley key, I see that it is the dang interlock/steering pin that is not retracting. Key would spin with ease, but the locking pin would not disengage so the ignition would turn the thing on. Now I have to do PnP hunts for ignitions. clay monroe redgh...@comcast.net > On Sep 9, 2018, at 1:01 AM, archer75--- via Mercedes > wrote: > > >> The locksmith my mechanic sends me to is no longer interested in doing car >> things... Re: [MBZ] Screw it
Yes, sounds like 124 and 126 may be on the edge for a similar fate. I've got a complete 124 sedan lockset (from ignition through trunk) but my cabriolet will probably need a new trunk lock so I'd better order it now to see what happens. My wagon rear hatch also needs a new cylinder, I think a couple years ago Tom Hanson priced that at about $200. I probably need to just get it. - Max Charleston SC On Sat, Sep 8, 2018 at 2:30 AM Scott Ritchey via Mercedes < mercedes@okiebenz.com> wrote: > A very depressing saga. > > > ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

I am now of a mind to salvage as many lock sets (door/trunk/ignition) as I can to maybe store away on the parts shelf. The locksmith will still cut a key for these, all I need is the VIN plate from the door. That becomes the only solution when Mercedes Germany will no longer provide those tumblers. Even the dealers and Tom Hanson had no idea until I had issue with getting access. I was forced to spend $300 on “special order, no refund” trying to purchase a tumbler for the SL. The part is superseded five times in the EPC, then goes to a black hole. Dealer took my money and put in the order. Two months later, there was no product and no data on why, as well as no clues as to where in the system the order was even placed. I guess putting the fear of GOD into the hearts of the orientals bringing their leased cars in for service may have seemed bad for business. A call was made to CC Irvine to find out Whiskey Tango Foxtrot their problem was. CC Irvine blew much smoke into rectal passages until the suit demanded it get kicked up the ladder to the Fatherland. CC Germany at first tried to blow smoke, but the underlings were forced to call in an adult who acknowledged that there was no way on God’s green earth I was ever going to see, nor would anybody else, a tumbler for a car built prior to 1985. With that, I was given an apology, the three charges to my Credit were refunded, and I was advised to find a good locksmith who might rebuild the thing. In the past five years I have had the key cowboys rebuild four locks (ignition tumbler). One for the SL, one for a w115, another was a PnP set that needed a key (I pulled the vin tag), and then I had a “spare” I got from fleabay that was wonky. I never did an ignition lock but I did try to rehab a 126 door lock. I succeeded but the thing is crimped together and you can never really reassemble that kind construction properly. I don't know about now, but non-matching (don't match doors) lock cylinders were not expensive (as an interim fix) back then. I eventually replaced the driver's door handle and ignition cylinder with new, matching locks from MBZ.
