I would say closer to a license suspension/high risk insurer, but yes. -D > On Mar 19, 2024, at 3:14 PM, Rick Knoble via Mercedes > wrote: > > You dodged a speeding ticket or three on that one. > > > Rick > > From: mercedes@okiebenz.com > Sent: March 19, 2024 2:13 PM > To: mercedes@okiebenz.com > Reply-to: mercedes@okiebenz.com > Cc: d...@penoff.com > Subject: Re: [MBZ] Time v Mileage > > Can’t. Re: [MBZ] Time v Mileage
I work off of mileage as well, every 5k in my case, which I wasn’t able to hit on Mrs. Dan’s car after two years, so I changed it. I just barely hit that interval annually on the ML500, so a year or mileage works for it either way. -D > On Mar 18, 2024, at 12:52 PM, Curt Raymond via Mercedes > wrote: > > A 1 year limit is usually advised by the manufacturer. Re: [MBZ] Time v Mileage
A 1 year limit is usually advised by the manufacturer. This is, at least in theory, based on the acid buildup in the oil. IIRC acid buildup is controlled by TBN (total base number) in the oil. You could get oil analysis to check and see if TBN has fallen to the point that engine damage could occur. Or you could just change the oil yearly. With 3 vehicles I just change at 10,000 miles give or take a bit, 2 of those are diesels where acid buildup isn't so much of a thing. Interestingly the magic oil analyzer thingie in the 2018 Dodge RAM managed to hit 10,000 miles almost exactly. I changed the oil last week at 10,050 with 4% life left on the oil as noted by the vehicle... -Curt On Monday, March 18, 2024 at 12:45:14 PM EDT, Bob Rentfro via Mercedes wrote: I’ve always changed oil based on mileage thanks to all the driving we used to do regularly. If I wait until I reach the mileage constraint I will have left that oil in for almost 9 months. I hope no one has the brown bottle flu this morning from pounding too many Guinness’ yesterday. Re: [MBZ] Time v Mileage
If it was a time limit, 6 months seems short. 1 year maybe? Re: [MBZ] Time v Mileage
I’m down to annually on most of our wheels. I’m not about to dump $40-$50 of oil out after 6 months. Yes, I know that it will help to remove condensation, but I also make sure that the cars that aren’t driven much get out and wound up once a month to deal with that. Of course, Mrs. Dan’s car has no need for winding up. -D > On Mar 18, 2024, at 12:44 PM, Bob Rentfro via Mercedes > wrote: > > I’ve always changed oil based on mileage thanks to all the driving we used to > do regularly.
