Yeahbut you change cars more often than I change shorts...
I'm not sure that ALL the MBs I've owned (3) add up to the price of ONE of
yours.
Eh, maybe:
'81 300TD $300
'83 240D $1500
'85 190D $2950

Total: $4750 for 3 cars over 5 years and ~120,000 miles.

I don't buy the proposition that rain alone (absent salt from road
treatments) is incapable of rusting cars. Living near the sea in a
warm state (e.g., FL or SC) can also enhance the formation of rust.

bought them, just that I got them in Dallas. Not a fair assessment,
just my experience.

I feel for you - I'm from just South of Buffalo NY, where on quite nights,
you can hear a Ford rust. AMC's were even worse, but not much worse in the
70's.

There is a strip that runs across the US. The northern boundary is somewhere
around the center of Tennessee extends due East West and the southern
boundary is South, probably 100 miles from the coast.

I live in the heart of the rust belt, and I am tired of driving cars that
you can watch disintegrate before your very eyes. I realize that Arizona,
New Mexico, Nevada cars are gonna be rust free, but where else gets no snow
and salt on the roads or doesn't have coastal salt air? Just curious.

Yes, this is apparently why the kids' idea of a classic muscle car in
Minnesota is a mid-80's Cutlass or Monte Carlo. Had to laugh when I
moved into the neighborhood with my '68 Coronet.

Not sure of the boundaries, though, Rick.

I always heard Atlanta cars were pretty good bets. Yes there are
some costal areas in Georgia but they don't salt the roads and it's
not like Florida where they get completely sun-baked.

Kleb gets some nice cars. I have had good luck with dallas/Ft Worth
cars. Memphis has no salt to speak of, but seem to be worn out or
mechaniced to death in good bodies. Atlanta is a good bet. gotta
watch nevada/utah cars. Ever heard of bonneville SALT flats?

Kansas. We get very little snow. Most of the city and counties are so
ill equipped to deal with the snow that usually by the time, they try to
get salt trucks out on the road, the snow has melted. I have also heard
of a lot local governments using sand instead of salt. I have never had
a car with a rust problem.

Both the Mercedes I bought from the Dallas area have had rust
problems. They get so little snow, that I don't know how it happened.
There are rusty cars here - we're half way to Wichita, KS. When I was
flying to MN for Christmas every year, you could count on the snow
beginning just N. of Wichita.
