Funny how the Rabbits hold their value isn't it? I was thinking, we really need to replace Hammie the 240D, he's getting pretty tatty. My wife has declared that we should always have at least one manual trans in the stable which can have no more than 3 vehicles. The red 190D is an auto as is the pickup so Hammie's spot needs a manual. So lately I'm thinking another 240D would fit the bill. I'd love to find one that was way stripped down. Right before I bought Hammie I looked at another 240D, manual windows, manual sunroof, no AC, no extras at all. Cool car but the dude didn't meet my price (I forget now) until after I'd already bought Hammie. -Curt Date: Fri, 16 Jul 2010 22:03:27 -0400 From: Allan Streib To: Mercedes Discussion List Subject: Re: [MBZ] my 300E is now for sale Message-ID: Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Wonko the Sane writes: > 86. > > I'd give my left *** for a diesel Jetta/Rabbit/Golf. Did they put the eco-diesel in the Golf? Much as I like the Rabbit the diesel version is pretty pokey, if the Golf got a turbo in ~1990 I'd be real interested. Surprisngly the Golf doesn't get much better mileage than the Jetta and the Jetta not that much better than the Quantum/Passat I'd dig a chance at another Quantum. -Curt Date: Fri, 16 Jul 2010 20:54:29 -0500 From: Wonko the Sane To: Mercedes Discussion List Subject: Re: [MBZ] my 300E is now for sale Message-ID: Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 86. Que mucho? I geev you fifty bucks 1. One should always care. Shame on you. 2. Pre-me, car smacked into a mail box (per Kleb) and creased the right front fender. No one even seems to notice the crease except for me. 3. Kleb traded me no-$$$ for my VW Quantum turbo-diesel. 4. Came with bald tires, so I coughed up $600 for four Goodyear Assurance -- was flush with cash at the moment and asked that the best snow/ice tire they had available be mounted and balanced. They put them on and it runs like a 4x4 in snow (with 160 lbs of sand in the trunk). 5. Very fast car -- way too fast for me. 6. Cash takes the title. You can drive it home to the four corners of the US. I will be listing it locally, and I am pretty sure a Mexican (that isn't racist, that is just fact) from the next town over will soon be the owner. Did I answer you questions? Re: [MBZ] my 300E is now for sale
This was Jeff's daily driver. Some of you met him at the IowaQ. Started working as a mechanic (for a salary) at age 14. He "retired" and went DOT at age ... late 40s. Jeff is the Daily Lama of mechanics -- really good. I know for a fact that this car is in great shape, mechanically perfect, and ... has 16" mags with good tires. 115K miles. I drove it just once doing a parts run for him, and fell in love with it immediately. To answer Donn -- don't know, the 300E and I just never bonded. My old 240D was always the favorite step-child. I even put $600 worth of tires on it -- less than 1000 miles ago -- but it is time for it to go away. Nice car but not my cup of tea.
