My 87 300D clears 30 consistently, with a leaky return hose.

Marshall may have figures for NA 603s. The only NA 603 I ran across was
in a five speed 124, and I am fairly certain those numbers will not compare
well with yours :)

A normally aspirated 603 engine will do about the same in the city and
worse than a turbo on the highway if it's like the 602 NA and turbo engines.

Re: [MBZ] om603 MPG estimates?

2005-09-22 Thread OK Don
I just got 24mpg on the last tank in the 300SDL - turbo 603 engine. I
have gotten 26 in the past. The last several tanks before this one
only got 22MPG, but most starts and acceleration were WOT - kick-down
switch engaged.

Those numbers seem low for a 603, a lot low for a 602 (isn't a '92 a 2.5L?)
but at least the trend is in the right direction, and accelerating.

I can get 28-30 mpg on the highway in my '87 124.193 300TDt wagon. Mixed
driving is seldom better than 25 mpg (that's over for the last 8 years -
maybe 75kmi - since the trap was removed). Before the trap was removed
the mpg was maybe 3-4 mpg lower. The same engine in an 126.125 SDL is
usually just a little lower and in a 124.133 300Dt sedan, a little higher.

My observations agree with the esteemed Dr. Booth's (although I have a
300D sedan). Subtract 1 or 2 mpg if the weather's hot and you've got
the AC on continuously.

Kevin, it's a Euro so it really is a 3 liter turbo diesel, but with
the now disable EGR feature.

Well, first you have a 602 2.5L anyway, but I get 28-31 most of the
time. Lowest was 27 in the mountains (uphill side), highest was 36,
but I think that was a fillup error. Normal milage for that car is
32-34.
