 My 617 engine would

 are maybe 1% at 10kmi.
You need to test YOUR engine to find out when to
 change the oil.
Changing synthetic every 10-15k vs dino every 5k
 is actually cheaper
when you factor in the cost of filters your
time, and if you buy the
 5qt jugs at Mall-Wart (of 5W-40) for $20.

It only has top level stuff from mbz.org, and a few bits here and there when
you try to dig deeper. None of the meat seems to have survived.

I will volunteer to edit some stuff together, but I am NOT starting with
anything even close to an oil thread. Or, my tires are better than your
tires. God give me strength.

Kaleb, I am going to send you a message privately.

my own web site crashed along with everything else. Somehow my concerns are
more about my own site

no leaking (much more on dino).

Anyway, a website with articles, amny of which could
be taken from the oild mbz site with permission of the
  authors, would be very useful.

To corroborate Dave's statement - the oil
analysis on my 300SDL
(287,000 miles) at 10,211 miles on Mobil1
indicated 0.5% soot. I'm
about to hit another 10k miles, and will get
another analysis done. I
am VERY impressed with the cold starting of the
engines with Mobil1 -
having used dino oil for 20 years and having to
plug in the block
heater before switching.

1) All Mobil-1 oils can suspend 2% soot, which
is when Mercedes
recommends changing the oil anyway.

2) Every engine's soot production is different.
My 617 engine would
reach that 2% limit by 5-7kmi, while my 603's
are maybe 1% at 10kmi.

Re: [MBZ] website... was: Oh joy! Another oil thread!

2005-08-24 Thread Christopher McCann
We COULD have an article on oil that covers basics and
gives the various positions on the matter. There is
so much written about it in posts, that I doubt it
would be hard to find people to make their cases for
the article. Just think of it - no more oil threads!

Kaleb, I am going to send you a message privately.
