I'd like to poke at running metacard as a service loading and testing .mc files etc. Just to see what can be done reading and writing and displaying etc. Where is the best place to find examples to start with? Word Wrap . . .
Dear Brian Yennie, Yes, you are quite right re 'dontWrap'. maybe I was a bit unclear about what is happening: my Bulgarian text (dontWrap is false) just breaks as soon as it hits the right-hand side of the field so (and I will use an English word here as an example) we might have: fantaon the right-hand side of the text field, and stic on the left-hand side of the field on the following line. I don't think this has got anything to do with writing in Bulgarian (which does not use the first ASCII table) because the word-boundary is still signalled by the good old SPACE bar. Re: server side playground
Hi Simon, If that's on a PC you need the resource kit tool called srvany.exe. It's well documented on MSN or Technet. works like a charm. cheers Xavier On 30/05/2005 17:49:36 metacard-bounces wrote: I'd like to poke at running metacard as a service loading and testing .mc files etc. Just to see what can be done reading and writing and displaying etc. Where is the best place to find examples to start with? Word Wrap . . . Bad News for Bulgarians and other non-Roman script users
Sometimes I'm a bit slow . . . I made a quick little widget with a field containing some Bulgarian text and another containing Latin text. 2 little buttons: dontWrap TRUE and dontWrap FALSE scripted to turn dontWrap on and off for both fields. Worked beautifully for the Latins text and DID NOT WORK for the Bulgarian text. [at this point the good people at RR should notice (hey?) that Richmond is (for once!) giving them some useful information] This is extremely bad news - I am not prepared to belive I am the only person who uses or wants to use MC/RR with non-Roman/Latin script. --- I'll pop my silly 'dontWrap' widget up to the Lexicall repository after lunch, and those who are interested can download it via my website. Word Wrap - go pictorial!
I have just uploaded one, not particularly satisfactory solution to the Lexicall repository PICTORIAL TEXT.rev. This is based in an idea from Jeanne deVotot in 2004 - it presents lovely, readable text that will remain the same across any platform (because it isn't text at all) - but, of course, it demands quite a kick more memory than standard fields. This software install did a nasty thing. the version of the Scripter's scrapbook I had was offered for FREE, as are most of the programming aids mentioned on the list.
