Remarkable looking stone Rubenare you sure its a meteorite? If
they are chondrules then here's a wild guess...how about more
resistant armoured chondrules similar to some CR meteorites which have
been exposed and polished by weathering , perhaps in some sort of vug.
I'd have to file a window very soon if it were mine. Would love to see
what was shown upgo on you know you have to...and send some more

Wish I was theregood luck

[meteorite-list] Very Unique Meteorite

2011-01-30 Thread Bernd V. Pauli
Hi Ruben, Graham, List,

Remarkable looking stone Rubenare you sure its a meteorite?

Exactly my thoughts! Those coffee bean, lens-shaped, highly polished,
oval chondrules sure look suspicious! Now, assuming this is a genuine
meteorite, another possible scenario might be preferential ablation and
melting away during atmospheric entry.

Sunday greetings,

Bernd

Hi,

I have had several people ask Is it a meteorite, are you sure? In
my opinion it is It is highly attracted to a magnet - almost
like a Mesosiderite - and what appear to be chondrules everywhere. I
guess it could be terrestrial, but I have never seen a terrestrial
rock like this either. I will have this stone with me and bring it for
show and tell. If you see me just ask and I will show it to you!

Re: [meteorite-list] Very Unique Meteorite

2011-01-30 Thread Ruben Garcia
Hi Rob and all,

As it turns out this specimen is neither a unique or a very unique
meteorite. A window - with sandpaper borrowed from Luc Labenne -
proved very quickly that this interesting specimen is quite
terrestrial. Zero free metal and zero matrix...just reddish hematite.

Now back to the tents!

 Hi all,

Currently emailing from Tucson and thought I'd post one of
 my latest
Gem Show purchases. I bought this meteorite yesterday
 because it was
so odd. Has anyone ever seen anything like it?  If so,
 how could this
 have happened?

Re: [meteorite-list] Very Unique Meteorite

2011-01-30 Thread Ruben Garcia
Hi,

It was not his fault (at least I won't blame him too much) I bought
many kilos for 4-5 cents per gram and this was one in the box. I
originally thought it was a meteorite too so I can't blame him for
leaving it also : )
