Re: [meteorite-list] Leonids 2003 - more info

2003-10-20 Thread DNAndrews
Greetings Meteor watchers,
One can also look for meteors in the morning as that is the peak of the
Orionid meteor shower. Expected peak is at ~21 hrs. UT, so that
doesn't favor the Americas, but you just never know.

Best,

Hi Steve,
Instead of using this list as a reference manual, perhaps you would
be interested in investing in one of the following:
1) Catalogue of Meteorites 5th. Ed. - This will tell you EVERYTHING about
every fall and find to date of publication. This is the OED of meteorites.
About $165?
2) Meteorites A to Z - While this is a highly abbreviated version of
the above, it gives you Type, TKW, date of fall or find, etc. - I believe
it is a mere $20 (a fabulous buy!)

Is the above quote acurate? You get 250 emails A DAY from non-

If this is accurate, how on earth do you read them all? Why don't
they just join the list? Wow - 250 a DAY! Glad they AREN'T all list members

   Thanks, again, Michael

Hi Michael,
I'd be willing to wager that a majority of those 250 emails per day were
from spammers trying to infiltrate. Good job of filtering and
maintaining Art. Thanks!

OK Matteo, you asked for it. I think you should back off of all your
meteorwrongs on eBay crap. Frankly Scarlet, I don't give a damn! You
are giving the IMCA a bad name with all your harrassment. Second of all,
you may despise the US collector/dealers, but most deliver their product
without blaming the Italian Post Office for not arriving as planned (or
at all). Third of all, over here, you buy something, you pay for it.
That's just the way it goesthe American (and every other country's)
way. That goes for the UK (which is part of Europe, last I checked) as
well. Don't play Miss Goody-Two-Shoes around here with me.

I'm sorry, but I couldn't take any more babble from this YOU. I
apologize if I have offended anyone other than you-know-who.

Put me down for a Farmer votehe may be hot-headed but at least
he's: willing to take a risk, be punctual, and deliver.

Re: [meteorite-list] Attention, more ebay SPOOF emails

2003-10-09 Thread DNAndrews
Dabo and list,
There is also a PayPal spoof that has/is making the rounds. I've
received a couple of those at my old email addy. Just remember that
neither eBay nor PayPal will ever email you and ask for any submissions
of private information. It's up to you to go to their secure, encrypted
site to update any of that info The PayPal spoof website/URL I traced
back the UK as the origin. Beware, these hackers, scammers, and virus
creators are getting more and more sophisticated.

As another warning, I'd suggest anyone using Windows ME or greater to
download all the latest Microsoft Security Patches too. Firewalls
aren't a bad idea either, especially if you are using a DSL or Cable
connection. Even though you don't have your browser or email program
open, you are STILL connected to the net if your computer and modem are on.

Bestest,
Dave

Bernhard,
It is not considered proper list etiquette to post your private
responses to your inquiry to the entire list. Dave's replies to you
were made in private to you ONLY...not to the community. In the future,
I would suggest to keep such things to yourself and the respondee.

Yes, I stated cheap - what's your problem with that? I do not intend to
spend a lot on having a representative sample of ordinary chondrites
from Northwest Africa.
There are a lot of decent members from that list that have sent me a
list of specimen they have to offer. Believe it or not: this is what my
message was thought for: getting in contact with people willing to part
from some of their NWAs. I wasn't after silly comments from someone who

Regarding the idiots in the forest: you are right. But the biggest
idiots are those considering themselves clever for finding out they are
not alone.
Whatever: rest assured that whether cheap or expensive, a H6 or a

I say this without bitterness. And that's the last thing I'll write in

Now it's off to two weeks of leisure and fun in South Tyrol :-)

Well, your add seemed to me to be coming from a pathetic high school
kid. Ebay right now has the scraps, small slices and pieces at the
lowest give away prices ever.read the http://www.meteoritetimes.com
article from Michael Blood on market trendsand then go hunt for
cheap meteorites.
Oh, I have about eight kilo's of NWA's that are investment quality bits
and pieces and whole specimens. I didn't plan on being funny, but then
again, collecting marbles seems to be much more affordable to many, and
your post was such an easy mark. Re read your post...you stated

here's a wise tip, contact Dean Bessy on ebay and buy the junk from

him,

he always has the best prices since you want the cheapest stuff. If you

can't afford to buy meteorites, why don't you try buying marbles?

Thanks for the info. You made me a little bit wiser with that. I will

do

the same for you now (trying to make you a little bit wiser): If you
think that because a meteorite is cheap, it is worthless, think again.
If you think that someone buys cheap stuff because he can't afford the
expensive one, think again, too. If you think your remark was either
funny or thoughtful, please stop thinking. It is hopeless.
