Dear list members,

I have relisted the 161.9 gram slice of NWA 5549 (provisional) Algerian
silicated iron and I have drastically reduced the starting bid to the rock
bottom price $3 a gram which is a steal for a professionally prepared
specimen of this truly beautiful silicated iron. For anyone interested:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemitem=160324560375

I received an educational bit of information ( for me as I was not aware of
this fact previously) regarding the silicate inclusions in this as well as
all iron meteorites from the lab doing the classification work on this iron
and I have simply copied the info from the email I received here:

Basically all silicate inclusions in iron meteorites would be considered
Winonites if they weren't imbedded in iron. I guess basically all winonites
are are very melted chondrites. However, a winonite is a classification
separate to silicated iron. If the winonite is mixed with iron we call it
silicated iron, if separate from the iron, winonite. So they are basically
the same. But you can't call a silicated iron a winonite iron. Historically
they have always been classed separately. What makes winonites rare is that
they rarely fall separate from iron.

Is this information generally agreed upon? Best wishes, Jack

[meteorite-list] AD - Ghubara Fragments for sale

2009-02-23 Thread David Kitt Deyarmin
Serge was kind enough to send me a Ghubara fragment for processing so now
it's time for me to return the favor and make some money for him

Currently I have about 115 grams of fragments available for $1 per gram or I
will take $100 for the lot which includes shipping to any US address (I'll
work something out for international buyers)

These come from the coring process used to make the sphere for my
collection, they range in size from dust to nic 4-5 gram chips.

Here is a picture

http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p298/BobaDebt/Meteorites/Ghubara/GhubaraFragments.jpg

If interested contact me off list at bobadebt at ec.rr.com

I will start to process the remainder of the fragment into slices and
endcuts this weekend and should have some to sell next week

If you're interested in a slice or end cut you can contact me and explain
what you like and I will try to accommodate you.

Thanks

All of the spheres in my collection are 50mm in diameter. I can have a

sphere.

However, I would rather not miss an opportunity so even if it looks close

I don't see the difference in Michaels approach to any other retail outfit.
Target has sales all the time. I buy something one week, then the next month

My advice for meteorites...make an offer. Most dealers are very flexible

I would like to buy a large single olivine crystal to have it made into a

I don't know the translation into carat size but I would want the finished

I would like a green crystal since she already has a citrine charm, which is

[meteorite-list] 25% - 35% of any Ebay Buy-it-Now auction

2008-12-01 Thread David Kitt Deyarmin
This is not the easiest progream to use, it may take up to 60 days to get
your money back but it's 25% - 35% off... Up to $200 an item and $2500 per
person!!!

Iit's only for USA customers that end Buy-it-Now items and you have to pay
with PayPal

I have already saved $119 on 2 items

Details can be found here

http://pages.ebay.com/cashbackoffer/terms.html

Basically it goes like this...

You need to got to www.live.com

Do a search, I just did one for 'xbox' it really doesn't matter what you
search for...

Now look at the search results (up by the top in the sponsored links
section) should be a link to Ebay... Click that link

Now log into Ebay

Now at the top of your Ebay screen there should be a green Microsoft
Cashback logo with a red percent off banner on the right side

Now do a search for ANYTHING you want it's doesn't have to be M$ related,
click on the buy it now auctions and find one you like... Again you can
search Ebay for anything at this point once you active the M$ session...

To test availability you need to click the BIN button like you are
purchasing it , now if there are more then one available it should take you
to the next page where you choose the quantity the Microsoft Cashback logo
should be on this screen as well under the quantity, click continue (notice
it says you will confirm the purchase on the next page under the continue
button) on the next page it will show you your cashback amount and you can
purchase or exit out... Pay attention if there is only one of the items
available there there is NO continue page just the commit to buy, don't
click that unless you are ready to purchase! In either case verify the logo
is on the purchase page to make sure it works on that auction...

Be sure to follow the next steps after the purchase you need to setup an MS
account and sorts or use your existing MS account so you get credited...

Paypal is supposed to refund you the cash right back into your Paypal
account within 60 days...

After your purchase if you want to use the coupon again, you need to go back
to step one to activate a new MS Cashback session for additional savings...

You can do this 12 times!

I hope I can find a big ugly cutter for a decent price some day.

[meteorite-list] AD - Looking to TRADE ZAG

2008-09-19 Thread David Kitt Deyarmin
I have about 700 grams of Zag slices available for sale at $3 per gram.
These are some super nice slices and you can see them by clicking this:

http://home.ec.rr.com/bobadebt/Rocks/FS%20Zag.htm

I am also open to trades / partial trades with cash / etc for the following
material -

GHUBARA (L5)

SIKHOTE - ALIN

A SUITABLE H4 OF H4

A MESOSIDERITE

My only stipulation is that the material be large enough to produce a 50mm
sphere. To meet that requirement it has to measure at least 52mm in what
would be the center of all 3 axis that the sphere rough would be cut from.

My only motivation for selling material is to acquire new material for
additional spheres to add to my collection. The material I sell is created
from specimens I buy to process into a sphere.

I'm sure I can sell this material over a protracted time period but it's
possible that one of you may have something I'm looking for just collecting
dust on a shelf somewhere so this could be beneficial to everyone involved.

If you have something that you think I might be interested in contact me off
list at bobadebt at ec.rr.com

Thanks

[meteorite-list] My Annual Meteorite Sphere Collection Update

2008-08-12 Thread David Kitt Deyarmin
I am very proud to report that I was able to add 8 spheres to my collection
this year :)

When I started this collection in May of 2006 I never dreamed I would own
many of the specimens I have. I could have collected slices or end cuts
which is what most people focus on but I decided to collect spheres, more
specifically, 50mm spheres. At first, this condition seem to make it very
difficult to add new specimens to my shelf. Now, here it is 2 years later
and I have most of the specimens I never thought I would have such as the
Brahin, Toluca, Dronino, Canyon Diablo Graphite Nodule and the Libyan Glass.
Plus I have many specimens I never even considered such as the NWA 791,
Nininger Brick and Uruacu.

I realize that I was extremely fortunate this year but I don't have high
expectations for the coming year, I think I'll be lucky to add 2-3 new
spheres to my

collection.

You can check out my collection at:
http://home.ec.rr.com/bobadebt/50mil.htm

Here is a picture of the whole collection

[meteorite-list] AD - Zag Pre-Sell Interest List

2008-08-09 Thread David Kitt Deyarmin

I just received a 1750 gram Zag meteorite which I bought from Ken Regelman

I will be processing it into a rough to make a sphere for my collection and
thought it would be a good idea to see if anyone would be interested in a
particular part for their collection.

I plan to sell it for $3 - $5 per gram. It is a beautiful specimen with
lots of crust and should produce at least one super nice end cut and a
variety of slices some of which could have a lot of crust.

So of you're looking for a piece of Zag please check out the images at the
below link and let me know what you're interested in.

For instance -

If you would like a heavy end cut (thick)

or

specimen that has not been cleaned. I am asking 25 cents per gram.

I have 3 pieces of Libyan Glass. The 161 gram end cut is the best since it

The 32mm Sphere is sold but the rest is still available.

I would like to move this material so I will accept reasonable offers.

I also wanted to let everyone know that the image for this material
incorrectly listed the weight of the pile of chips as 161grams. The correct
weight is only 76 grams

Thanks

I have a variety of Libyan Glass pieces available for sale

You can see a picture by clicking this:

http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p298/BobaDebt/Fragments-1.jpg

The 161 gram piece has a single cut flat surface and I'm asking $161 for it

The 77 55 gram pieces have 2 cut surfaces on the back and one of them is
at a 2 radius, I am asking 75 cents per gram for theses pieces.

The 7 12 gram pieces have a slight radius cut on the back but it isn't
very noticeable so I'm asking $1 per gram for these

The pile of chips in the center have multiple cut surfaces, I will take $40
for the whole lot

I also have a 32mm sphere which weighs 40 grams that I am selling for $150,
it beautiful and I will post pictures of it and my 50mm sphere later.

[meteorite-list] Web Site Update A Big Thank You

2008-05-18 Thread David Kitt Deyarmin

I just updated the home page of my web site.

I made a few changes to the text format moved some images around.

Earlier I posted a topic about an image that would have looked great on my
site but I couldn't get one of the spheres to look right.

Paul Harris contacted me and offered to fix it and his work was amazing. I
liked it so much it's the first image you see when the page loads.

I would just like to publicly thank him for making that image look great. I
offered to credit him on my site but he wasn't worried about it.

Re: [meteorite-list] Web Site Update A Big Thank You

2008-05-18 Thread David Kitt Deyarmin

Thank you very much for the kind words

I know some of you may not like my collection, but you have to admit it is
shaping up to be very unique.

When I started this collection in May of 2006 I never dreamed I would get
many of the specimens I have such as the Brahin, the Graphite Nodule and the
Libyan Glass.

It wasn't a matter of money, I knew if I really wanted something I could
save up enough, I just doubted that I could find material large enough to
produce 50mm spheres.

Now, here it is 2 years later and I have most of the specimens I never
thought I would have. The only one left on my original list is a Sikhote
Alin but I know it will be along time before I can afford to add that one to
the shelf.

I'm extremely excited about what the next year will bring but I don't have
high expectations, I think I'll be lucky to add 2-3 new spheres to my
collection.

I'm looking hard for an L-5 (preferably a Ghubrua) , an H-4 and H-6, and a
Zag (H3-H6).

If anyone has some material they think would make a nice sphere contact me
off list at bobadebt at ec.rr.com and we can discuss the options.

Thanks

Paul Harris contacted me and offered to fix it and his work was amazing. I
liked it so much it's the first image you see when the page loads.

I would just like to publicly thank him for making that image look great.
I

offered to credit him on my site but he wasn't worried about it.

[meteorite-list] AD - Libyan Glass End Cuts Fragments For Sale

2008-05-16 Thread David Kitt Deyarmin

If your interested in anything please contact me off list at bobadebt at

[meteorite-list] Presenting my 50mm Libyan Glass Sphere

2008-05-16 Thread David Kitt Deyarmin

I just received this today:

This is the 17th sphere in my collection and I'm extremely pleased with the
way it turned out.

The photo does not truly capture the translucency and depth of this sphere.

If you want to check out the rest of my collection click this :

[meteorite-list] A New Question

2008-05-13 Thread David Kitt Deyarmin

Does anyone know What is the reasoning behind the ban?

---

A specific pre-treaty date is unclear. Some of the material that was
released into the market and that are considered 'pre-treaty':

Adelie Land
ALHA 76001
ALHA 76003
ALHA 76005
ALHA 76006
ALHA 76008
ALHA 76009
Mount Baldr
Thiel Mtns
Lazarev
Derrick Peak 78008
Neptune Mountains

Most are next to impossible to get with the exception of ALHA 76009, which
is readily available. Thiel Mountains is out there, but expect to pay
$300-400/g for it. Lazarev was a Rob Elliot exclusive and will probably
never be available again unless a collector sells their own.

A tidbit of info is here:

Kind regards,

[meteorite-list] What to do with a Block of Pallasovka Pallasite?

2008-04-18 Thread David Kitt Deyarmin
I'm trying to decide the best way to process a block of Pallasovka Pallasite
that Serge sent me.

Originally I was going to cut it into slices for him but my saw doesn't do
so well cutting pallasite material into thin slices

Currently, it is a non symmetrical cube with an average width of 2.125 and
it weighs 820 grams. It has a single polished face which looks awesome.

I could sell it as is for $1400 shipped or I could polish all six sides and
sell it for $1500

But I thought it might be cool to cut it into a perfect cube, however if I
did that I would lose weight and the price would go up.

I could also turn it into a 2 sphere but then it would weigh even less and
cost even more.

There are so many possibilities so I figured I should just post a message
here to see if anyone is interested in this and if so how would you want it?

Please post a reply if you have any ideas or if you're interested in it
contact me off list at bobadebt at ec.rr.com with an offer.

Thanks.

[meteorite-list] AD - Libyan Glass End Cuts For Sale

2008-04-01 Thread David Kitt Deyarmin
I am cutting a large piece of Libyan Glass into a sphere for my collection
and I was able to get 2 nice large full end cuts.

By full end cut I mean it only has one cut surface.

The cut surface is pretty smooth but there are some light saw marks, I have
no way to polish them out but they aren't very noticeable.

These pieces are pretty clear and they have a nice light to dark green color

I am asking $1 per gram plus shipping, but I will entertain offers.

If you're interested in a piece please contact me off list at bobadebt at

Re: [meteorite-list] What doesn't this list use an online forum format?

2008-02-22 Thread David Kitt Deyarmin
I know you said most may not see my reasons as valid but this went to the
entire list so I would like an opportunity to address each of your issues
for the benefit of the other members that may not be familiar with how
forums work.

---

#1 - most require a sign in identity AND a password (I can hardly keep track
Of all the passwords and sign ins I have already). For instance, I refuse to
have anything to do with Yahoo because of their obsession with signing in,
passwords, etc.

The Met List required you to create a password when you signed up. There
has to be a cookie somewhere on your computer that identifies you when you
send an email to the list otherwise anyone could send emails to the list
without subscribing.

When you sign up for most forums you can elect that it bypass the sign in
procedure every time you visit which will put a cookie on your computer.
Yahoo does require you to sign in frequently but most other forums don't.

---

#2 In some forums people do not identify themselves, but instead have a
handle or forum nickname. I don't care to communicate with people whom

I cannot identify.

The Met List allows people to do the same thing. On this list you see my
email which is bobadebt at ec.rr.com, my real name is David Deyarmin.
Several other members use email addresses that are not connected to their
real identity.

HOWEVER, a forum admin can make it mandatory that you have your real
identity attached to your profile. An added benift of a forum is that you
can use avatars (small pictures) to represent yourself in each post. I'm
sure most people would use a real picture. The Admin can actually require
that a member either uses a real image or none at all.

Being new to the community I would love to see who I'm talking to when I
read this list.

---

#3 Forums are always live - right now, for instance, it is 5:43 AM and I
Am writing the list. People will read it when they are ready, when they are
Not at work, or eating dinner with their wife or watching TV or the like. I
doubt any forum has anyone on at this time.

Of all your reasons I find this one the most confusing. You do not have to
use a forum in real time. A forum can be accessed by any member at their
convenience. I think your talking about chat rooms.

---

#4 People can pretend they are ME and say horrid things in such a format.
(There was a Meteorite Blog that started about a year ago - I dropped out
within 20 minutes for this reason and the general filth of the place).

People can do the same thing at the met list

I could create a yahoo email account that was mblood at yahoo.com and make
it appear as Michael Blood when I send emails. I could subscribe to the
list and pretend to be you.

Forums are actually have more security protocols available designed to
prevent this very issue.

---

This is from your other post to the list

The greatest problem I have with the list is people send Me private emails
with the list in the subject box: Since I sometimes Don't read all the posts
or sometimes take days to read them all, This means some private posts never
reach me. We would all do well to NEVER send a private post with
[meteorite-list] in the subject box - unless it is preceded with OFF LIST

All forums have a Private Message System which allows any member the
opportunity to send a message to a single person. Members have the option
to disable this feature if they do not want to receive PMs. Some forums
have a Send a member an email option which enable a person to email a
member without that member having to make their email address public.

---

I hope this helps clear up a few of the concerns that you have.

Art has already said he's implementing code that will allow users to use
this list as an Email List or a Forum so hopefully it will please satisfy
all the members that use this venue to communicate with the meteorite
community.

[meteorite-list] Why doesn't this list use an onlineforum format?

2008-02-22 Thread David Kitt Deyarmin
If you like the Dailey Digest format most forums allow you to receive the
new post in the same format.

A few other features that make forum easy to use are:

Email notification when someone responds to a post you make

The ability to subscribe to a post so you can more easily find it

The ability to search the forum for posts about specific topics

The ability to put a member on you IGNORE LIST which is a feature I'm sure
some of us would really appreciate.

Helo Anne and Norbert;

I agree with your summation of this matter wholeheartedly.Especially
Norberts description of the friendly laid back atmosphere.I also look
forward to
reading the digest i receive every day.And i really appreciate all the posts
by

all the members,no matter what it is about.By the way, i also use the delete
key a lot,freedom of choice,i think.

Thanks Art! I for one appreciate all you do.

Best regards;Herman Archer IMCA # 2770.

[meteorite-list] What doesn't this list use an online

2008-02-22 Thread David Kitt Deyarmin

Please explain the following:

1. The meteorite list is a time-honoured institution.

It's only been around for 11 years. What did you use before the list?

2.We love the old-fashion style

Who is we? Are you speaking for the entire membership?

3. A forum offers a lot of more knickknack. It's more laboriously to use,

How is a forum had to use

4. unclear, the threads are more difficult to follow

How is unclear and how could a thread with every reply in chronological
order be difficult to follow?

5. and it would cause much more work for poor Art.

Why would it cause more work for Art?

6. The conversation there would be less formal, hence a lot of not so
interesting stuff to read ect.

Again, why would it be less formal, not that this list is formal by any
stretch

7. you had to fight through hundreds of pictures, which might not interest
you

In all my years I have never read a thread that had hundreds of images.
However wouldn't it be nice to be able to see a picture that someone wanted
to post instead of having to click on a URL which has been interrupted and
split into to 2 lines, so you have to go back and cut and paste each part
into the address bar.

[meteorite-list] What doesn't this list use an online forum format?

2008-02-21 Thread David Kitt Deyarmin

I'm not trying to stir up trouble or incite arguments I'm just curious.

Email lists are by today's standard an antiquated venue for discussing any
hobby.

They have many limitations and can be taxing on your email inbox, which is
why I receive the Dailey Digest. I delete them and do all of my reading from
the archives.

Online forums are easier to use and the posted info is easier to track.

Plus it's easy to ignore topics that you're not interested in without having
to pick through a bunch of emails.

However, I would like to understand why so many of the members here prefer
not to use forums.

I want to make it clear that I'm not trying stir up trouble, I'm just trying
to understand the aversion most of this list has to using a forum.

[meteorite-list] Cutting Friable meteorites

I seal the specimen in a Wal-Mart bag to protect it from plaster

[meteorite-list] Keith's Tucson Meteorite of the Day

2008-02-04 Thread David Kitt Deyarmin

As some of you may you I only collect Meteorite Spheres.

Most people seem to appreciate my collection but I've run across a few
people that have demonstrated utter disdain about how I choose to collect.

Personally I think that it's up to each individual to collect in a way that
works for them.

I have no problem with someone not liking my collection but there's a point
when subjective criticism become rude and obnoxious behavior.

IMO, Matteo's comments about this cube tend to be more toward the rude end
of the spectrum.

[meteorite-list] Meteorites make the best Christmas Gifts

2007-12-25 Thread David Kitt Deyarmin
These aren't really Christmas gifts since I'm the one who either bought them
or made them but they did show up on Christmas Eve so they felt like gifts .

I have added the following spheres to my collection: NWA 791(L-6), Dhofar
1289 (L-4) and a Canyon Diablo Graphite

To see them click this

http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p298/BobaDebt/Meteorites/Spheres/NewAdditions.jpg

The Graphite is without a doubt one of the most interesting spheres in my
collection and when you consider it's size of 50mm and the fact that
graphite nodules this big are hard to come by I consider it to be very
unique and rare

You can see larger pictures of each sphere at:

[meteorite-list] Question about my 2kg Uruacu Ad

2007-12-24 Thread David Kitt Deyarmin
I originally offered this piece to the list at what I thought was a good
price of $850

When it didn't sell I dropped the priceto $750. It still didn't sell, so
last night I dropped the price again to $600.

At first I contributed the lack of interest to the timing, with Christmas
almost here.

Then I received an email asking about the shipping and now I believe a
poorly worded line in my Ads may have confused some people and may be the
reason no one was interested

These lines appeared in their respective Ads and are very poorly written

__
I'm asking $850 plus shipping which is 40 cents per gram.

I'm asking $750 plus shipping which is 36 cents per gram.

I'm asking $600 plus shipping which is 36 cents per gram.
__

PLEASE LET ME KNOW If you read my Ad and thought the shipping cost 40/36/36
cents per gram

That was not what my intention was.

The first line was supposed to read I'm asking $850 with shipping included
which is 40 cents per gram.

But I changed the way I worded it and missed fixing some parts and that is
how the email went to the list.

The in subsequent emails I just change the pertinent info and re-sent it.

I AM EXTREMELY EMBARRASSED ABOUT THIS I'M VERY SORRY FOR THIS MISTAKE

In all fairness to the Don, who is the person I'm selling this for, I feel
obligated to do my best for him so I'm going to accept offers on this piece
for the next 2 days.

The minimum offer I'll accept is $600 and if anyone offers me $850 I will
consider it sold.

Thank you and I'm sorry for all the confusion an additional posts my mistake
caused.

[meteorite-list] AD - 2kg Uruacu FINAL PRICE REDUCTION $600

2007-12-23 Thread David Kitt Deyarmin

THIS IS MY LAST PRICES REDUCTION.

If it doesn't sell at this price it's heading to the saw :)

I have a 2077 gram Uruacu whole specimen available for sale.

I'm asking $600 plus shipping which is 36 cents per gram.

Of the 3 remaining pieces that I have this one is the largest, the other two
weigh 259 grams and 373 grams.

There is a huge fracture in one side but I could not break this piece in two

This is an awesome specimen that shows both smooth weathered surfaces and
jagged surfaces.

There is no oil on it.

If you're interested in this piece or either of the smaller pieces contact
me off list at bobadebt at ec.rr.com

[meteorite-list] AD: Canyon Diablo Graphite Slices / Mali / Uruacu Whole Sale Lot

2007-12-09 Thread David Kitt Deyarmin

I have a lot to offer to the list this week

If you're interested in anything listed below please contact me off list at
bobadebt at ec.rr.com

The pictures I uploaded are of entire groups, if you would like more
detailed images of the item your interested in let me know in your email.

Thanks

---

First up I have some new Canyon Diablo Graphite Nodule Slices available for
$2.50 per gram

I processed a 360 gram end cut and got 1 large super nice 73 gram slice, 3
medium sized slices and a variety of smaller slices.

You can see the 4 largest slices by clicking this:

http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p298/BobaDebt/Graphite/Slices1.jpg

You can view all I have to offer by clicking this link and then clicking the
Canyon Diablo Graphite Nodule link

http://home.ec.rr.com/bobadebt/Rocks/FS.htm

---

Next I have an 89 gram assortment on Mali / Erg Chek whole specimens and
fragments available for $3 per gram

I'm selling these for another dealer as part of an agreement to earn his
trust in hopes that he will send me a larger specimen from which I will be
able to make a sphere.

Some of these pieces are about 90% fully crusted

You can view all of them by clicking this:

http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p298/BobaDebt/Graphite/WS1.jpg

---

Finally I have a 10 piece Uruacu Whole Sale Lot.

It is comprised of 9 normal 3-5mm thick slices and one 15mm thick slice

The total weight of the lot is 339 grams and I'm asking $250 which is 75
cents per gram

Uruacu is more difficult to cut but my process leaves a very smooth surface
so there will be very little work need to sand, polish and etch these

Most are loaded with cohenite-schreibersite inclusions the bottom right
slice had a fissure in it and once it was cut it separated into 2 slices so
one side is cut and the other has a crust like weathered surface.

You can view the lot by clicking this, it's not a good picture but it gives
you an idea of what they look like

[meteorite-list] cut big campo

2007-12-08 Thread David Kitt Deyarmin
First you have to ask yourself why you're cutting it and how you want it
cut.

Are you cutting it for resell?

If so do you want full slices ?

Do you want huge end cuts or all slices with minimal end cuts.

Do you want to slab it, then process the slabs into slices and end cuts?

This is just a few of the questions a cutter would have ask before taking
the job.

Contact me off list at bobadebt at ec.rr.com with your phone number and I
could call you to discuss this in more depth.

BUT if your just talking about the available ways to cut it I can think of
3.

The most conventional way is to use a band saw but for one this size you
would need a large band saw and it would be a long process and at machine
shop rates it would cost a fortune, so it could be cost prohibitive. The
only way this method would be affordable was if there was someone like me
willing to do the work for a reduced fee and/or some material

If it's not to tall I could cut it on my liquid cooled abrasive saw but it
would be very work intensive which would end up costing a lot so this method
could be cost prohibitive unless I'm interested in the material.

I'm not sure if it could be cut with a wire saw but if it could it would be
cost prohibitive.

If its really big you could use a combination of the first 2 methods. Use a
machine shop to cut it into 3 pieces (with a band saw) that are easier to
handle and then I could process each piece but I would have to be interested
in the material to do the work.

[meteorite-list] Photos of a meteorite?

2007-12-04 Thread David Kitt Deyarmin

The bottom looks pretty flat.

Couldn't you sand, polish and etch just the bottom surface?

The top would retain it's unique look and then you would know if it was a
meteorite or not.

[meteorite-list] AD: Seymchan Slices - Wholesale Lots

2007-12-02 Thread David Kitt Deyarmin

I have 2 lots of freshly cut Seymchan Slices.

My cutting process leave a very smooth surface and very little sanding and
polishing is required to etch these slices.

This is the last of the Seymchan that I have.

If you're interested in either or both lots send an email off list to
bobadebt at ec.rr.com

Thanks

--

LOT 1 - 8 Slices / Total Weight 141 Grams / $70

I was testing the limits of my cutting process by trying to see how thin I
could cut a slice so slice thickness of this lot varies from 1mm to 4mm

They are all about the same size which is approximately 45mm x 35mm

http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p298/BobaDebt/8Slices.jpg

--

LOT 2 - 12 Slices 1 End Cut / Total Weight 538 Grams / $250

This lot was cut to a consistent thickness of approximately 4mm, a few
slices vary due to blade changes but overall they are very close. The last
cut is thicker and has a slight taper.

[meteorite-list] Pallasite lust

2007-11-29 Thread David Kitt Deyarmin

Do you have a Pallasite Sphere :)

--
I don't think this went out the first time; I apologize if it shows up
twice.

OK, I admit it. I love pallasites. However, it's gotten to the point
where I have reached the 3-sigma (or at least the 2 sigma) limit as far
as finding new ones that aren't in my collection. The palm sized, 2 mm
thin slice of translucent Esquel is on hold until I can spend 4 digits
on frivol without wincing. I am looking for small pieces of the rare
ones now, with a limit of $150 per; smaller/less is also fine, as most
of my collection is micros, even the pallasites, and I can't afford too
many at $150 a pop. If anyone has pieces of the following, please
contact me off list, and I will suggest them to my DH as a Christmas
present:
Argonia
Barcis
Bendock
Cold Bay
Dora
El Rancho Grande
Giroux
Hambleton
Itzawisis
Lipovsky
Marburg (this name appeals to the perverse in me)
Mineo
Mount Dyrring
Newport
Omolon
Otinapa
Phillips County
Rawlinna 001
Santa Rosalia
South Bend
Southampton
Sterling
Vermillion
Zaisho
Zinder

Thank you all for helping blow my budget :D

[meteorite-list] AD: Accepting Reasonable Offers for a 360 Gram Canyon Diablo Graphite Nodule End Cut

2007-11-29 Thread David Kitt Deyarmin

My Canyon Diablo Graphite Nodule end cuts and slices are almost gone.

I have 3 endcuts and 2 slices left

Once again I find myself in a dilemma, I have a beautiful 360 gram end cut
and no one has expressed any interest in it at the current price of $2.50
per gram, which I think is a fantastic deal.

Since I really don't want to turn this end cut into slices I'm going to
accept any reasonable offer.

So if your interested in this beautiful and huge end cut send your offer off
list to bobadebt at ec.rr.com

You can view the specimen at
http://home.ec.rr.com/bobadebt/Rocks/FS%20CDGN.htm

If I don't sell it by tomorrow night I will prepare it for the saw and
process it over the weekend.

[meteorite-list] Cutting meteorites with CBN blade

2007-11-23 Thread David Kitt Deyarmin

I cut my irons with an MK-100 Brick Paver saw using .030 abrasive blades.

Not only are the blades super cheap, they also produce a very smooth cut
surface.

It takes longer to cut each slice but it saves material and I don't have to
sand out the deep band saw marks

---
I found these blades to be real junk and found absolutely no advantage to
using them especially for the higher price. Irons always seem to be best cut
with a band saw by an experienced technician.
Why cut a Nantan? You are asking for troublethat sucker will likely rust
in front of your eyes!!

Subject: [meteorite-list] Cutting meteorites with CBN blade

Dear List:

Does anyone have any experience with cutting irons
with a Cubic Boron Nitride blade?

I purchased a 10-inch Pro-Slicer (10 x 0.012) CBN
blade from Lapidary Discounts in California and used
it to cut a 2 1/2 inch Nantan. It worked very well
for the first 10 cuts, then, very quuckly, started to
bind up indicating that the CBN was gone from the
blade. For the cost I expected to get much longer
life from it.

Any opinions on what kind of a life one can expect
from such a blade. Altogether I cut about 22 linear
inches before the blade was useless.

I think I followed good cutting practices, using pella
oil for lubrication, and feeding at a rate of about 1
inch every 5 minutes (0.2 inch per minute).
Motor speed was 1750 rpm.

Any ideas?

Dave

[meteorite-list] I need Schooled on Canyon Diablo Graphite Nodules

2007-11-22 Thread David Kitt Deyarmin
I'm preparing an auction description for the remaining Canyon Diablo slices
and end cuts I have for sale

But to be perfectly honest I don't really know that much about them, except
what I have been told but I need more solid info

I tried the net but it's a odd subject and not much can be easily found.

I am looking for answers to the following questions:

1. Do all iron meteorites contain Graphite Nodules?

2. If so, has anyone found nodules from other iron meteorites and/or made
them available to collectors?

3. Are the nodules from the Canyon Diablo meteorite the largest available?

4. If so, why is that, what made the Canyon Diablo meteorite so special?

The answers to these questions will probably create more questions so if
you're very knowledgeable about these please contact me off list at bobadebt
at ec.rr.com

If possible, I would like to call you to discuss the subject but email will
work too.
