[meteorite-list] Last Batch of Rare Meteorite Falls For Sale - Won't happen Again!

2020-03-19 Thread Ruben Garcia via Meteorite-list
Hi all,

Here is the very last batch of rare meteorite falls for sale, so if
you want something now is the time! I will not post a “Rare Falls”
list again so buy now or bye-bye.

I did not list every fall available from some countries, including
South Africa, Estonia, Bulgaria, Mongolia, Croatia, Indonesia, India,
Vietnam, Somalia, Cambodia and several other counties. So, if you have
something specific in mind that is not listed here please let me know
and I’ll check and see if it’s available.

Remember these are not my prices nor my specimens. I’m only helping
John Schooler liquidate his collection. Discounts for multiple items
purchased and If you see something that you would like to make a "best
offer" on, please do. “No” is the worst that can happen, but the
answer may be a resounding YES!

Re: [meteorite-list] Hunting Holbrook, Arizona 101 - video

2019-07-21 Thread Ruben Garcia via Meteorite-list
Thanks Rob,

We filmed on Wednesday the 17 of July and the 107th anniversary the
Holbrook fall was on Friday.

Didn't think of it but someone remind me later that we should have had a
group hunt as we've done in the past.

Maybe next time I'll organize a group hunt For Old Times Sake.

[meteorite-list] Hunting Holbrook, Arizona 101 - video

2019-07-18 Thread Ruben Garcia via Meteorite-list
Hi,

Here is a video that we filmed yesterday in Holbrook, Arizona. It's a
very basic video for those of you that have never hunted Holbrook, or
maybe never hunted anywhere.

We had lots of fun, found 12 small meteorites and as you can see from
the last scene, we did finally get out of the heat.

[meteorite-list] A few more affordable Aguas Zarcas (CM2 fall, Costa Rica) on ebay!

2019-05-19 Thread Ruben Garcia via Meteorite-list
Hi all,

I'm currently listing a few more specimens and will list a few more tomorrow.
But after these are gone I'll be completely out with little chance of
getting more. My contacts in Costa Rica are saying it's harder and
harder to get nice material.

I have specimens under $100 on ebay now - but they likely won't last
so take a look!

[meteorite-list] Scientists, Researchers, and Collectors - Fusion Crusted CM1 stones for sale!

2018-12-28 Thread Ruben Garcia via Meteorite-list
Hi all,

I am happy to announce that I have for sale NWA 12328 - a newly classified,
and very fresh CM1 meteorite!

Look at the photos - they’re worth seeing - even if not interested in
buying!

https://www.flickr.com/photos/146052561@N08/

This is only the 4th CM1 Meteorite found outside of Antarctica and (as far
as I know) the only CM1 currently for sale to the public.

These specimens weighed only 42 grams total and after cut loss and donating
20% to the classifying university I have only 33.89 grams left for sale.

While there have been a few (26 total) CM1 meteorites found most were tiny
fragments. It’s important to remember that the total known weight of all
CM1 meteorites combined is only about a kilo total. The bulk of which is
made up by Moapa Valley as it weighed 699 grams!

The few (4) specimens I have for sale have jet black fusion crust and are
very fresh looking.

22.16 gram individual, 10.96 gram individual, .4647 gram crusted fragment,
.306 gram crusted fragment.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/146052561@N08/

Pricing is similar to Moapa Valley when it was sold nearly ten years ago,
but this one is far fresher and much less TKW.

If interested, please contact me.

Re: [meteorite-list] possible Alabama lunar meteorite fall

2018-11-18 Thread Ruben Garcia via Meteorite-list
Several of us are considering going unfortunately we won't be able to leave
until after Thanksgiving.

Hi Randy,

It hadn't been mentioned yet on the Met-List. I worked this fall last week
(unaware
that Marc Fries had already done so), so the fortunate result of the
independent
analysis is that two people came up with the same answer and the exact same
radar returns. (I also analyzed the Carrollton, AL, seismic station data
which has
an unmistakable sonic boom just 106 seconds after the terminal burst of the
bolide.) I'm 100% sure these returns are associated with the fall since
they are
practically colocated with the seismometer.

Upper atmospheric winds were high at the time of the fall -- jet stream was
about 125 knots blowing almost due east. This is why the Doppler radar
returns subsequent to the initial high-altitude westerb return at 15 km are
displaced to the east of it. At the altitudes below the 2.5-km altitude
radar
cluster, the winds were below 30 knots and blowing more to the southeast
or ESE. This is supported by the small southeastward shift from the central,
linear-looking return, and the wider cluster to its lower right that was
scanned less than a minute later. The first place I would search would be
the southeast edge of the 2.5-km altitude cluster.

Unfortunately, this is a tough search area. --Rob

Re: [meteorite-list] Looking for Large Slice

2018-08-27 Thread Ruben Garcia via Meteorite-list
Hi Connor,

With cutting and preparation costs nowadays your not gonna get much for a
couple hundred dollars. Honestly, cutting a chondrite, sanding it,
polishing it would probably cost a couple hundred dollars just for simple
preparation.

Pallasites in irons could cost much more because of the etching process not
to mention Opticon and other factors.

But good luck...

[meteorite-list] Awesome Shock Melted (NWA 6963) Martian Specimens

2018-03-13 Thread Ruben Garcia via Meteorite-list
Hi all,

I purchased quite a few NWA 6963 Martian Specimens in Tucson -
February 2018. After slicing and selling many of the individuals I
came to the last one, a 40 gram specimen. As I began to take slices
off I started seeing inclusions that looked as if they swirled around
the interior of the meteorite in a fluid motion. In reality the slices
looked more like a loaf of marble rye bread than any Mars specimen I'd
seen previously. After contacting two well known meteorite scientists
and asking if what I was seeing was a weathering pattern they both
informed me that it looked like shock melt. The slices listed on ebay
have NOT been polished as sometimes a polished surface takes away the
sharp contrast in the two lithologies.

Worth a look even if you're not looking to buy!

Thanks Mike and Rob,

This is very interesting as I also bought many kilos of this material
in Tucson. The Arlit write up in the met-bul doesn't mention it as an
Impact melt. Is this the same material?

He looks happy too, Congratulations to Mr Ward!

Unfortunately, I'll be heading to Tucson tomorrow to prepare for the show

Maybe it's my age (54) but it's not nearly as fun hunting meteorites
in the snow as it was when I was 35.

I haven't hunted meteorites - other than the occasional fall or probable
fall - in many years and no I never had any trouble with any government or
state agency relating to meteorites or anything else.

The fact that dealers are applying sealants and anti-rust coatings to
this Pallasite, like an old 55 Chevy from the East Coast, indicates that
Sericho (Habaswein) is indeed a ruster. I received several reports today
 of
rusticles, green goo, chemical smells, dislodged crystals and popping
 noises
coming from specimens. Maybe it should be upgraded from ruster to serious
 ruster.

Stable Pallasites like Esquel do not require any special treatment other
than avoiding chlorinated water during preparation, proper high-grade
 polishing and low humidity storage/display.

I avoid rusters at all costs,

 Adam

There seems to be some very stable specimens and also some that will
crumble in your hands. It all depends on where it sat for the last
1000 years.

[meteorite-list] 10 Mislabeled Meteorites - Meteorite lot $1.99 starting bid

2017-08-16 Thread Ruben Garcia via Meteorite-list
These specimens are not in the meteorite bulletin as they are labeled.
This means that the provisional name or the field name was not used as
was assumed at the time of labeling. So one would need to take each
specimen one by one and do a little detective work via the internet to
determine it's true name and then to see if it has been classified.

I'm just to lazy to do it, so a little research can save you money!

Mike G and all,

FYI, there are two Ruben Garcia's

My son Ruben Garcia Jr also sells meteorites and the guy just gave him
bad feedback also.

The scammer lives in Hong-Kong... He orders a meteorite files a claim
within days gets refunded and then keeps the meteorite and gives
negative feedback. A scam that works perfectly since ebay does not
seem to care

[meteorite-list] Another eBay JERK - Block him!

2017-01-09 Thread Ruben Garcia via Meteorite-list
Attention all ebayers.

Block ebay user "sfcbertoli"

Johnny Humphries just contacted me about eBay user "sfcbertoli"

It seems as though he's left negative feedback recently for Mike
Miller, Johnny Humphries and others for no apparent reason.

According to Johnny he had the negative feedback removed through ebay
since this guy only leaves negative feedback.

I say block him now and save yourself the trouble.

Re: [meteorite-list] Hunting Arizona's Newest Strewn Field

2016-12-07 Thread Ruben Garcia via Meteorite-list
Hi all,

1. I used an older camera which I'm 99 % sure has no GPS
capabilities. However, Rob, Sterling and Jim are smart and could
probably find the area if I had posted hand drawn pictures with stick
figures.

2. I was never told to keep the area a secret but did not pinpoint it
out of respect to the finder.

3. I feel like there are so few meteorite hunters that care anymore
that it wouldn't make any difference. Example: 5 or so years ago
probably 5-10 well known hunters drove to Texas to hunt an area where
a small iron meteorite called Llano River was found - no more was
ever found.

However, only a few weeks ago I called nearly a dozen people to join
me in Texas to Hunt the Clarendon area where I told them I found
hundreds of Clarendon (c) fragments. No one wanted to go. Not until
Geoff finally joined me - after I had made several trips - and we
found so many fragments it was like shooting fish in a barrel. Now a
few later mentioned that they wished they had gone but they still
haven't.

My feeling is most meteorite hunters don't care enough to go, let
alone do a little detective work. But if they do find it good. Go
find more!

Enough said?

4. I am 100% sure the meteorites I saw are at least an (L) but
wouldn't shock me at all if they were (LL). But the largest one - even
though looked like an L - did not have the same "look" as the others.
The smaller ones remind me of a slightly more weathered Holbrook. Marc
Fries mentioned that the low weathering look is highly reminiscent of
an LL which I agree.

Of course, I'm partly joking. I think most of Northwest Arizona looks
like this. However, I do think someone could get within 7 - 10 miles
of the area without much trouble. Finding the exact area would be a
little more difficult.

[meteorite-list] Hunting Arizona's Newest Strewn Field

2016-12-02 Thread Ruben Garcia via Meteorite-list
My friend Myke Steighler recently found some really fresh looking
(probably L) chondrite meteorites in Northwest Arizona.

Today he invited Dustin Dickens and Myself to hunt what we believe is
Arizona's Newest Strewn field.

Unfortunately, I can not divulge the exact location until the
classification process is completed.

However, here are some photos of our hunt and some of Myke's amazing finds.
