Re: [meteorite-list] Meteorite Central Flashback

Hi Shawn,

What a great idea. Further to that I've just had a look and the list
archives all seem to be there in one form or including those no longer
available at the current archive. (pre April 2004) It looks like every email
may at least be archived within the txt downloads.

Cheers,

Jeff

Sign me up for some Allende as well. I wondering what it will be like in 10 ro
20 years with prices. A XXX NWA will be a 1 cent a gram and historics will be
doubled or tripped in price pre gram. Those that start back in the day will
have a nice investment to live off and enjoy the golden years. Formula for
meteorite collecting, buy buy buy, collect them all :)

Hi Jeff, Shawn, and List,

Did anyone look through the
old classifieds section? Allende (whole
crusted stone) for $4.75g!! I'd like
to answer some of those ads now!
:)

Best regards,

[meteorite-list] Meteorite Central Flashback

2011-11-09 Thread Bernd V. Pauli
Hi All,

When I started collecting meteorites seriously in the early eighties
(about thirty years ago), I purchased my first Allende specimens at
about 75 cents per gram and I had to pay about 38 cents per gram
for Nuevo Mercurios. Peekskill sold for about US $ 20-25 per gram.

The US $ was about 2.62 German Marks in those days (Apr 04, 1984).

In his Fall 1987 Meteorite List, David New offered Allende for about
$3.00 per gram (exchange rate: 1 US $ = 1.8093 DM, Sep 11, 1987).

David New, Sep 1991: (exchange rate: 1 US $ about 1.76-1.80 DM)

Allende without fusion crust ca. $ 4.50
Allende with fusion crust ca. $ 5.50-6.00

Michael Casper's Allende pieces in 1998:

- ca. $ 5/ g for a 1/2 individual with fusion crust and polished face.
- a complete individual: 7.547 kg @ $ 50 000 (about $ 6.60 / g).

Best wishes,

Bernd
