Hi Florian

unfortunately not - previously, we used a couple of scripts that
produced that output, but we decided, for the ease of use, to use
MirrorBrain's native functionality, which is not configurable. :-(

So the machine wins over Humans? I think this is sad... I thought the
concept of machines was to perform dull tasks according to the Human
specifications...

This is the kind of spirit that should not exist in a software project for
Humans.

I am more than happy if you improve the functionality or write a script
to receive the output in the way you prefer, and will incorporate it then.

Infra is rather swamped with tasks these days - for example, this week,
we migrated Gerrit, one of our central and mission-critical resources,
to another machine, and we have similar tasks on the agenda that suck up
all available time - like there's another machine with mission-critical
tasks due for replacement soon.

I am very sorry, but such cosmetical improvements are simply not amongst
the top priorities we have on the list at the moment, and it's just
outside my time budget right now to work on them.

no - it would have simply been helpful if you had some concrete mirrors
in mind to share them with us.

thanks a lot for that! I'll see if I can incorporate it today.

Much appreciated!

More concrete than the All Portuguese mirrors and the Munchen mirror in
the list you provided?

Since you are too busy, here are the links to the examples mentioned

Hi,

to read

if someone can provide me with a CSS that does so, this could work. I
sadly lack experience in that, but MirrorBrain allows inclusion of
self-defined headers, and thus our own CSS.

I think the problem is that mirrorbrain.css, which is referenced from
that page, is simply not available and returns a 404 page. Maybe all you
need is to just copy the CSS file to the appropriate place?

On top of what Florian said – who will look at that page anyway? My gut
says it's only us (mirror admins), and not even all of us, but just
some, and even those very rarely. Wasting more than 10 minutes to
perfect that page would be quite pointless, IMO.

As a volunteer collaborator on the Ask site and on the User mailing list I
commonly redirect people who are having problems with downloads to the
mirror list.
I advise them to choose the nearest mirror. I think they expect it to be
alphabetically sorted.

Actually what would be really nice would be a world map with the location of
the mirrors so that the user could visually select the nearest or the less
loaded (if there was a load indicator)...

do you know the .mirrorlist files for each download? That sounds like
what you are looking for :-)

It's e.g. at
http://download.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/stable/4.1.1/win/x86/LibreOffice_4.1.1_Win_x86.msi.asc.mirrorlist

That is exactly what I was looking for. With a Google Map and all :)

I had already looked at them because of the Hash codes but forgot about the
mirror selection.

I will stop redirecting users to the list and suggest the mirrorlist
instead.

Thanks!
