What's needed for an iOS proxyserver.

2011-05-30 Thread chefren
With any iPhone/iPad/iPod touch that has WiFi you can set up a HTTP Poxy

(Within WiFi settings: Just click on the blue dot with in it behind the
connected WiFi
Network name and scroll down.)

The options are: {Off | Manual | Auto}.

Manual asks for Server, Port and Authentication {on|off}, with Authentication
on you are
asked for Username and Password.

Auto option just asks for URL.

Has anyone set this up with OpenBSD?

No iOS devices here, but this is probably just a standard http proxy,
so you could probably use squid for it. manual would want the hostname
and port number (typically 3128 for squid). auto would want a url to
a pac file.

This URL should be reachable without a proxy and should contain a
PAC file. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proxy_auto-config for more
details. The real kicker would be setting option 252 in your dhcpd
config (See article on WPAD that the previous URL links to), but I've
never done that on OpenBSD.

Kinda naive question: either could be more than enough; depends on your
hard/soft/bandwith combination.

Stick to i386/amd64; usually the best buck for performance ratio.

Good luck!

Sparc64 is probably the best support non x86 architecture for openbsd at
this time.

2011-05-30 Thread Francois Pussault
Hi,

maybe arm sould be better choice, but it is realy dependant to the other
hardware specs, your needs.

a fast arm with slow memory buffer, sould be a bad choice
a mediam sparc with fast memory buffer, sould be a good one

ship is not the primary need, but the board all its parts is more important
if you need performance.

A fast processor on bad board will do permanently nop(No operation)
instruction so it is a bad choice for performances.

faq 14.15

2011-05-30 Thread russell

Just a thank you for the awesome documentation.

Was upgrading my home file server, doing my normal half assed job.
decided to install 49 while I was at it and during the disklabel
I though my new disk was bigger?, oh shit...

you do keep a backup disklabel right?, well... err... *cough* I do now.

and then the angels sang out, a beam of light came down
and when the glare settled there was faq 14.15

/var/backup! score! I have a copy of that somewhere.

bonus: scanffs(8), my new favorite man page.

OpenBSD on the current supported ARM systems are not at all fast on the network.
You'll get somewhere in the region of 30-50Mb/s of 1500-byte packets out of
OpenBSD/armish before running out of CPU. There's a work-in-progress BeagleBoard
port, I have no idea what speed you might expect from that.

SPARC - do you mean the older 32-bit systems or sparc64 / UltraSPARC?
I haven't tested recently but 400MHz+ sparc64 systems should be ok with
100Mb+.

Wait, what ? ~1 is 'a high load average' now ? What are that
database and webserver doing on your machine 'doing nothing' ? What
other processes do you have running ? Note that you don't have to use
lots of CPU to get a (really) high load...

Do you see a lot of interrupts perhaps ? Try `systat -s1 vm` or

Re: I don't get where the load comes from

2011-05-30 Thread Gonzalo L. R.

Take a look of this

http://undeadly.org/cgi?action=articlesid=20090715034920

El 05/30/11 18:44, Joel Carnat escribis:

Hi,

I am running a personal Mail+Web system on a Core2Duo 2GHz using Speedstep.
It is mostly doing nothing but still has a high load average.

I've check various stat tools but didn't find the reason for the load.

Anyone has ideas?

TIA,
Jo
