streaming program...
list, i am looking for a video streaming program and noticed ffmpeg did it over http. installing ffmpeg from packages gave the following... 4.0 GENERIC i386, no X11 sudo pkg_add -v ${PKG_PATH}ffmpeg-20060312p1.tgz Password: parsing ffmpeg-20060312p1 Dependencies for ffmpeg-20060312p1 resolve to: sdl-1.2.9p1-sun (todo: sdl-1.2.9p1-sun) ffmpeg-20060312p1:parsing sdl-1.2.9p1-sun Can't install sdl-1.2.9p1-sun: lib not found X11.9.0 Even by looking in the dependency tree: Maybe it's in a dependent package, but not tagged with @lib ? (check with pkg_info -K -L) If you are still running 3.6 packages, update them. Can't install sdl-1.2.9p1-sun: lib not found Xext.9.0 Can't install ftp://spargel.kd85.com/pub/OpenBSD/4.0/packages/i386/ffmpeg-20060312p1.tgz: can't resolve sdl-1.2.9p1-sun PKG_PATH=ftp://spargel.kd85.com/pub/OpenBSD/4.0/packages/i386/ it seems strange to me that ffmpeg requires X11 by default. so which streaming program that can do RTP would the list recommend? many thanks poncenby
Re: supported internal dsl modem for soekris available ?

list, when any configure script is checking for standard header files (stdlib.h, memory.h) it hangs for a few seconds on each file, as if it is taking this long to actually find each file on the disk. which i guess is actually happening. making the script take about almost five minutes to complete. any ideas why this could be happening? below is dmesg... cheers OpenBSD 4.0 (GENERIC) #1107: Sat Sep 16 19:15:58 MDT 2006 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/usr/src/sys/arch/i386/compile/GENERIC cpu0: VIA Samuel 2 (CentaurHauls 686-class) 534 MHz cpu0: FPU,DE,TSC,MSR,MTRR,PGE,MMX real mem = 158887936 (155164K) avail mem = 137269248 (134052K) using 1965 buffers containing 8048640 bytes (7860K) of memory mainbus0 (root) bios0 at mainbus0: AT/286+(30) BIOS, date 03/18/02, BIOS32 rev. 0 @ 0xfb370, SMBIOS rev. 2.2 @ 0xf0800 (43 entries) bios0: VIA Technologies, Inc. off topic but possibly interesting to someone...
List, File transfer between my iBook G4 and OpenBSD box (3.8 GENERIC#138 i386) over SSH seems really slow. I have made sure the iBook en0 interface is 100baseTX full-duplex and the same with the rl0 interface on the OpenBSD box. When transferring files with scp or rsync (over ssh) top reports sshd at 80-85% and transfer speed is limited to anywhere between 70-80k/sec. The OpenBSD box specs are as follows: cpu0: VIA Samuel 2 (CentaurHauls 686-class) 533 MHz cpu0: FPU,DE,TSC,MSR,MTRR,PGE,MMX real mem = 158900224 (155176K) avail mem = 138125312 (134888K) using 1965 buffers containing 8048640 bytes (7860K) of memory rl0 at pci0 dev 20 function 0 Realtek 8139 rev 0x10: irq 11 address x0:x0:xc:x9:x0:xf so it isn't the fastest box in the world but I'd expect it to cope better than it is. I have tried FTP and speed is constantly around 500k/sec, which I can live with but realise it should be much faster. FIrst thoughts is possible bottleneck when waiting for more entropy. If this is the case would adding memory make a huge difference? or is the CPU the bottleneck? any ideas out there? i'll continue googling in the meantime thanks guys, poncenby

Why enable pf only when the link is up? It's non-standard and potentially dangarous. You're better of using the standard way of enabling pf. Making PF=YES in /etc/rc.conf does not seem to work as required due to my pf complaining it cannot determine an ip address for the tun0 interface, and then falls back on what I assume is a default rule set of some kind. I would rather not use ppp.linkup to start pf but don't know how to change the order daemons start (ppp is handled by daemontools which I guess is going to make it even harder), although I would rather not use daemontools for ppp. poncenby

I believe the tcpdump shipped with 3.8 GENERIC does not support the - C switch (meaning chunk the captured data by a specified limit in megabytes). I am also conscious of the old version keeping up with the level of traffic attempting to be captured, although this is assuming that newer versions of libpcap/tcpdump have performance benefits. A side question: I have two interfaces, one captures receive traffic and the other transmit traffic. So in order to capture full-duplex flows I have 'bonded' these two interfaces together with brconfig. However I am not satisfied this is the best method as both interfaces receive a copy of the others traffic, all I really want is one interface to receive the others traffic and set tcpdump to listen on that interface. There is also 'extra' stuff with bridge0 interface like filtering and 'learning' addresses for forwarding packets, all of which will (i guess) affect the speed at which it can pass the packets up to tcpdump. Any thoughts? poncenby

binding network interfaces
I have been googling for around ten minutes trying to find a howto for binding two interfaces together. I vaguely remember doing this with linux which involved putting some bond statement in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/somefile. The trunk command seems to do what I am looking for but I am slightly confused.. trunk(4): Create a simple round robin trunk with two bge(4) Gigabit Ethernet interfaces: # ifconfig bge0 up # ifconfig bge1 up # ifconfig trunk0 trunkport bge0 trunkport bge1 \ 192.168.1.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 i don't have a box to try this on at the moment so would trunk be suitable for an openbsd box which has the transmit traffic being spouted to em0 and receive traffic spouted to em1? i guess it would be: # ifconfig em0 up # ifconfig em1 up # ifconfig trunk0 trunkport em0 trunkport em1 \ 192.168.1.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 and what is a round-robin trunk? thanks for any help and apologies for asking questions I could work out myself , I just don't have access to any openbsd at the moment. poncenby
