streaming program...

2007-03-22 Thread poncenby smythe

list,

i am looking for a video streaming program and noticed ffmpeg did it
over http. installing ffmpeg from packages gave the following...

4.0 GENERIC i386, no X11

 sudo pkg_add -v ${PKG_PATH}ffmpeg-20060312p1.tgz
Password:
parsing ffmpeg-20060312p1
Dependencies for ffmpeg-20060312p1 resolve to: sdl-1.2.9p1-sun (todo:
sdl-1.2.9p1-sun)

ffmpeg-20060312p1:parsing sdl-1.2.9p1-sun
Can't install sdl-1.2.9p1-sun: lib not found X11.9.0
Even by looking in the dependency tree:

Maybe it's in a dependent package, but not tagged with @lib ?
(check with pkg_info -K -L)
If you are still running 3.6 packages, update them.
Can't install sdl-1.2.9p1-sun: lib not found Xext.9.0
Can't install
ftp://spargel.kd85.com/pub/OpenBSD/4.0/packages/i386/ffmpeg-20060312p1.tgz:
can't resolve sdl-1.2.9p1-sun

PKG_PATH=ftp://spargel.kd85.com/pub/OpenBSD/4.0/packages/i386/

it seems strange to me that ffmpeg requires X11 by default.

so which streaming program that can do RTP would the list recommend?

many thanks

Re: supported internal dsl modem for soekris available ?

hello,

I would love to set up a openBSD/soekris based dsl router for accessing the
internet from home (my provider is t-com from germany).

Can anyone here tell me whether there are internal dsl modem cards available
which are supported by openBSD?

although it is not ideal, I'm using an external USB ADSL modem by
alcatel/thomson (speedtouch i think) which is powered from the usb.
it works with 4.0 generic although it requires using a blob from the
thomson website (aarrrgg!).

It would be sad if I had to install an external dsl modem, with yet another
external power supply

Thanks

slow configure script...

2007-01-12 Thread poncenby smythe

list,

when any configure script is checking for standard header files
(stdlib.h, memory.h) it hangs for a few seconds on each file, as if it
is taking this long to actually find each file on the disk. which i
guess is actually happening. making the script take about almost five
minutes to complete.

any ideas why this could be happening?

below is dmesg...

cheers

2006-03-01 Thread poncenby smythe

List,

File transfer between my iBook G4 and OpenBSD box (3.8 GENERIC#138
i386) over SSH seems really slow.
I have made sure the iBook en0 interface is 100baseTX full-duplex and
the same with the rl0 interface on the OpenBSD box.
When transferring files with scp or rsync (over ssh) top reports sshd
at 80-85% and transfer speed is limited to anywhere between 70-80k/sec.

The OpenBSD box specs are as follows:

cpu0: VIA Samuel 2 (CentaurHauls 686-class) 533 MHz
cpu0: FPU,DE,TSC,MSR,MTRR,PGE,MMX
real mem  = 158900224 (155176K)
avail mem = 138125312 (134888K)
using 1965 buffers containing 8048640 bytes (7860K) of memory
rl0 at pci0 dev 20 function 0 Realtek 8139 rev 0x10: irq 11 address
x0:x0:xc:x9:x0:xf

so it isn't the fastest box in the world but I'd expect it to cope
better than it is.
I have tried FTP and speed is constantly around 500k/sec, which I can
live with but realise it should be much faster.
FIrst thoughts is possible bottleneck when waiting for more entropy.
If this is the case would adding memory make a huge difference?

or is the CPU the bottleneck?

any ideas out there?
i'll continue googling in the meantime

thanks guys,

- compilation doesn't without error, but a useable executable is

Why enable pf only when the link is up? It's non-standard and
potentially dangarous. You're better of using the standard way of
enabling pf.

Making PF=YES in /etc/rc.conf does not seem to work as required due
to my pf complaining it cannot determine an ip address for the tun0
interface, and then falls back on what I assume is a default rule set
of some kind. I would rather not use ppp.linkup to start pf but don't
know how to change the order daemons start (ppp is handled by
daemontools which I guess is going to make it even harder), although
I would rather not use daemontools for ppp.

Exactly what do you want from the tcpdump.org version?

I believe the tcpdump shipped with 3.8 GENERIC does not support the -
C switch (meaning chunk the captured data by a specified limit in
megabytes).
I am also conscious of the old version keeping up with the level of
traffic attempting to be captured, although this is assuming that
newer versions of libpcap/tcpdump have performance benefits.

A side question: I have two interfaces, one captures receive traffic
and the other transmit traffic. So in order to capture full-duplex
flows I have 'bonded' these two interfaces together with brconfig.
However I am not satisfied this is the best method as both interfaces
receive a copy of the others traffic, all I really want is one
interface to receive the others traffic and set tcpdump to listen on
that interface. There is also 'extra' stuff with bridge0 interface
like filtering and 'learning' addresses for forwarding packets, all
of which will (i guess) affect the speed at which it can pass the
packets up to tcpdump.

Any thoughts?

binding network interfaces

2005-11-14 Thread poncenby smythe
I have been googling for around ten minutes trying to find a howto
for binding two interfaces together.
I vaguely remember doing this with linux which involved putting some
bond statement in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/somefile.

The trunk command seems to do what I am looking for but I am slightly
confused..

trunk(4):

Create a simple round robin trunk with two bge(4) Gigabit Ethernet
interfaces:

   # ifconfig bge0 up
   # ifconfig bge1 up
   # ifconfig trunk0 trunkport bge0 trunkport bge1 \
   192.168.1.1 netmask 255.255.255.0

i don't have a box to try this on at the moment so would trunk be
suitable for an openbsd box which has the transmit traffic being
spouted to em0 and receive traffic spouted to em1?

i guess it would be:

   # ifconfig em0 up
   # ifconfig em1 up
   # ifconfig trunk0 trunkport em0 trunkport em1 \
   192.168.1.1 netmask 255.255.255.0

and what is a round-robin trunk?

thanks for any help and apologies for asking questions I could work
out myself , I just don't have access to any openbsd at the moment.

thanks for the pointer, however I am not sure bridge is what I am
after, let me try and explain what I meant slightly more clearly (if
anyone is interested).

My openbsd box has three interfaces, em2 will be used for remote access.
em0 and em1 will be used for traffic passively collected from the
network using an ethernet tap.
so for example em0 will see all the receive traffic and em1 will see
all the transmit traffic.

so in order to do some traffic analysis I guess it is desirable for
these two interfaces (em0,em1) to be represented by one 'virtual'
interface aliased to em0 and em1, so the full-duplex traffic is seen
by tools like tcpdump/argus etc.

any thoughts? and what is a round-robin trunk?!?!?

thanks for your time

thanks for the replies, the solution I found was to insert the
following line into /etc/dhcpd.conf

next-server dhcpd server ip address

if this line isn't in then the obsd machine displayed 0.0.0.0 as the
server ip.

thanks for the replies

How to use boot pxeboot is described in the doc I wrote two days ago,
you can find a link to it in the list. You'll find examples that I
hope will help.

Hello list, help for the following problem would be greatly
appreciated, it's so frustrating.

Trying to pxeboot 3.7 on an EPIA machine with what Linux is reporting
to be a Centaur VIA Samuel 2 stepping 03 processor. The server is a
mac with os 10.4, here is the /etc/dhcpd.conf:

allow booting;
allow bootp;
ddns-update-style none;
shared-network LOCAL-NET {
 subnet 192.168.1.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 {
 option routers 192.168.1.88;
 option root-path /tftpboot;
 filename pxeboot;
 range 192.168.1.32 192.168.1.52;
 default-lease-time 86400;
 max-lease-time 9;
 }
}

The directory /tftpboot has the files pxeboot and bsd.rd and tftpd
has been verified to transfer files correctly. The EPIA machine is
pushed the pxeboot file and the usual prompt appears, so I type
bsd.rd and the spinning pipe character stays vertical and doesn'r
move.

after a wait of around 1 minute the number 4302596 appears, about a
30 second wait then the following text appears:

  read text: Unknown error: code 60
failed(60). will try /bsd.old

Perhaps I should copy the file bsd.old into the tftpboot directory
but I cannot find such a file.

Can anyone help me, I have attempted googling but not found much,
Any solution and I promise to submit my dmesg! - what an incentive :(

thanks in advance
