Yeah I'd love that, especially since I've never known what to do
with HID.

Side note: I really appreciate your work on the wiki. I worked a
little bit on it a long time ago and had similar hopes for
reorganization but as usual got overloaded.

You're doing a great job and thank you.

HID mapping documentation is sorely lacking. It'd be great if someone
started a new page with an HID crash course and an explanation of how to
map HID signals with JS.

I reorganized the controller mapping documentation into smaller pages
that link to each other. I created the new pages "Controller mapping
file locations", "Contributing mappings", and "MIDI crash course". I
also revised the "MIDI controller mapping file format" page and added an
XML crash course to it.

Re: [Mixxx-devel] wiki overhaul

I consolidated the FAQ and Troubleshooting pages into one
Troubleshooting page, got rid of distracting outdated information, and
organized it.

The Latency reduction tips section was really long and I feel that it
made the page cluttered when looking for other information, so I moved
it to its own page called Adjusting Audio Latency. Because Mixxx links
to the Troubleshooting page if it cannot get realtime priority, I put a
bold and italic notice at the top redirecting people to the new page.
Should the link in Mixxx be updated to the new page or should the new
page be merged back into the Troubleshooting page?

Re: [Mixxx-devel] wiki overhaul

2015-06-18 Thread Joan Ardiaca Jové
Hi! I have been lurking for some time in this mailing list, this is my
first time writing so I just wanted to say: hello!

I am improving the mapping for the Pioneer DDJ-SB that can be found in the
forums and I wasted some time trying to find out how to map the effects
until I found out how well the MIDI learning feature works :)

I thought it would be nice for other contributors to have it documented in
the wiki. I would do it myself if that's okay, but I don't know in what
version those controls were introduced. I'm guessing 1.12.0, but can anyone
confirm it?

2015-06-18 8:11 GMT+02:00 Be b...@gmx.com:

I added another example to the MIDI scripting page. It'd be nice if
 others proofread it.

I split the giant table on the control objects page into subsections.

tutorials at the top. I added examples to the bottom that show how to
handle button presses, how to implement modifier keys, and how to
implement deck toggle buttons. Hopefully we'll see more people turning 2
deck mappings into 4 deck mappings now.

2015-06-15 Thread Be
Daniel, thanks for adding the Hercules DJ Console RMX 2. Let's keep the
tables sorted by price with discontinued devices at the bottom. Also, if
you add a controller with an integrated sound card, add the details of
the sound card to the table towards the bottom.

I can confirm that the Allen Heath Xone K2 soundcard works with linux.
I've already edited the wiki.

I added a description column to the controller tables. For controllers
that have Mixxx mappings, I think we should have descriptions of what
the mappings do regardless of what the hardware was designed for. So,
for controllers designed for 2 decks that have 4 deck mappings, the
description could say 4 decks with a footnote explaining that this is
enabled by a deck toggle button.

Please take a look through the descriptions. Check that they are
accurate for controllers you know about and fix them if they could be
 better.

I think the Supported since Mixxx version column should be changed to
Last updated with Mixxx version. I don't think the former is
important, but the latter will help keep track of which mappings could
use updating with new Mixxx features.

Good idea. Do you want to go ahead and do that?

I am also thinking about adding a column indicating the general purpose

Much of the hardware I removed from that list did not sell very much and
is so old that it's not even available on eBay anymore. Some of them are
not even meant for DJing (such as Korg controllers).

I did keep some discontinued controllers from popular brands, namely
Native Instruments and Rane. I could add back some of the older Numark
and Vestax controllers.

 On the front page, I:
 * moved the info about GSoC to its own page,
 * moved the links to old meeting minutes to their own page,
 * removed the outdated and confusing link about the Hercules
 driver,
 * updated the manual link to the current online manual, and
 * reorganized a lot of other links.
 On other pages, I:
 * added Crossfade to the page about live GNU/Linux distros
 * removed outdated info about MixxxOS
 * added info about Native Instruments Traktor controllers to the
 hardware compatibility page
 * updated compilation instructions for Fedora.
 * updated info about using two sound cards in the FAQ

 To do:
 * Rewrite beginner's guide considering info that is already in
 manual. I
am also working on revising the manual, especially chapter 3.
 * Add prices to hardware compatibility tables
 * Update info about controllers where info is available
 * Organize sound cards on hardware compatibility page into a
 table with
info about each OS and the capabilities of the hardware
 * add more sound cards
 * undicate which controllers bundle sound cards

I did keep some discontinued controllers from popular brands,

Native Instruments and Rane. I could add back some of the older
Numark
and Vestax controllers.

Thanks!

I think a lot of people will at various points appreciate it.

 Be,

This is great that you're doing this. Except:

 * mark which hardware is discontinued and remove most
discontinued
controllers from list of mappings we don't have

I buy used controllers exclusively, have done for years, and as
such am aware of the rate at which old hardware sells at
auction.
People are *constantly* buying, and using, old controllers; only
the very crappiest are out of the loop of demand. If you still
have
access to the old data, it should be reposted, even if it makes
the
page really long. Mixxx users are often users just starting out,
often meaning using free or hand-me-down equipment.

But in general, thanks for working on the wiki, I know a lot of
it
 needed help :)

I have overhauled the hardware compatibility page. It should
now
 be way
more useful to new users considering what hardware to buy. It
is
 quite
apparent that there are not many supported devices that are
still
 commercially available.

 Changes:
 * condense OS compatibility information because most hardware
 works with
 every OS that Mixxx does
 * indicate what signal protocol (MIDI, HID, or NHL) controllers
 use
 * indicate which controllers have integrated sound cards
 * make tables of recommended sound cards with separate tables
for
 stand
alone USB sound cards and sound cards integrated into
controllers
 * mark which hardware is discontinued and remove most
discontinued

controllers from list of mappings we don't have
 * add prices for hardware that has not been discontinued
 * sort tables by price, with discontinued devices at bottom
 * add many more devices from popular brands to list of
controllers
 we do
 not have mappings for

For some controllers with integrated controllers and Mixxx
 certified
mappings, I could not find some info about the sound cards. Do
the
 sound
cards in the Allen Heath Xone K2 and Reloop Terminal Mix 4
work
 on
Linux? What bit depths and sample rates does the Terminal Mix 4
 support?

Re: [Mixxx-devel] wiki overhaul

2015-06-12 Thread Sébastien BLAISOT

ok, in this case, who in the core team did review the new 4-deck
compliant mapping for Hercules DJ control MP3 e2 that I wrote ? ;)

(or maybe you already consider me as a core team member ? I am
pleased, but it's probably a little early)

I understand the distinction but in the facts, I didn't see any
difference.

The main difference for me is provided with mixxx vs downloadable
elsewhere.

incomplete or generally crappy and we have no way of knowing.

Also, it would be great now that Mixxx is natively 4-decks to have an

that controller is natively 4-decks or some logic is implemented to
switch channel for each deck). As an examlpe, Hercules DJ Control MP3 e2
is a 2-deck controller, but now has a mapping that can control 4
channels (with a channel switch for deck A and deck B).

Good idea. Do you want to go ahead and do that?

I am also thinking about adding a column indicating the general purpose
of the controller, such as all-in-one, mixer, effects, and loops/remixing.
