Re: [Mobile.AI] Accurate Talking Dialer for Xolo Q700 Device

2013-09-24 Thread Mahesh S. Panicker
DW Contacts and Dialer is a very accessible cotact manager and dialer
that works just fine with Q 700. It is not a talking dialer, but it
works very well with talkback, and the developer is very much willing
to engage with screen reader users and there are some features
especially there for talkback users.

[Mobile.AI] Monthly Knowledge Sharing Session - Demo of Usability of a Touch-Screen Android Phone

2013-09-24 Thread Blind Graduates' Forum of India
Dear All,

Greetings from Blind Graduates' Forum of India (BGFI).

As part of our Monthly Knowledge Sharing Session, this time we take pleasure in
inviting you to a demonstration of the usability of touch-screen Android phones
using the free in-built screenreader Talkback.

As phones with Symbian operating systems are no longer being manufactured and
phones with physical keyboards are a rarity, we are gradually switching to
touch-screen phones with Android operating system since they are an accessible
and cheaper alternative as compared to an iPhone.

The idea of using a touch-screen phone grips many blind people with fear. But
once you will have attended this session in which a panel of blind persons
making use of different brands of phones will be exhibiting the usability of a
touch-screen phone, you are sure to walk home with enthusiasm and confidence of
using touch-screen devices.

The following points are expected to be covered:

  a.. Answering calls.
  b.. Rejecting unwanted calls.
  c.. Dropping received call.
  d.. Reading caller info.
  e.. Dialing numver.
  f.. Dialing from contact.
g.. Adding, updating and deleting contacts.
  h.. Setting up a conference.
  i.. Using i v r.
j.. Reading, writing and sending sms.
k.. Using email client to write and read emails.
l.. Moving mails to folders and setting rules.
m.. Using browser and navagating by elements,
n.. Searching and installing apps from the Play Store.
o.. Using newspaper app like times of india.

Those who wish to bring along their Android phones are requested also to cary
their earphones/headphones. Since there are time constraints and a lot to be
covered, we would be unable to provide individual attention.

The session will start at 3:00 PM sharp. To help us cover maximum number of
topics and to clarify most of your doubts, be there well in time!

Date, Time and Venue:

Date: Saturday, September 28, 2013.

Time: 3 pm to 6 pm

Venue: Yashwantrao Chavan Pratishthan basement hall, Jagannathrao Bosale Marg,
Nariman Point, Mumbai 400021 - opposite Mantralay. The venue can be
conveniently reached by bus root number 138 from CST station as well as 138/100
from Churchgate station. Share taxi services are also available from both
these railway stations.

For any queries, call Dinesh Saraiya: 9969029700

So mark your date, and see you there!

  Regards,

 The BGFI Team

[Mobile.AI] chalanges for totally blind in using touch screen phones.-discuss

2013-09-24 Thread jignesh thakur
Dear friends,
I would like to discuss this important issue with you all in details.
As nokia simbian are out of market now. We don’t have many choices.
I tried my friend’s Samsung galaxy grand.
I could do almost everything with the phone.
But still I feel that touch screen phone is not as convenient for us
as the phone with physical keyboard.
I used the phone for few days. But I lost the charm of mobile due to
hardships which I had to face.
I can operate my c5 everywhere and in every condition.
But I couldn’t operate Samsung galaxy grand with the same eas.
Practically I faced difficulty in typing while traveling.
To note down any number while talking on phone was almost impossible
I couldn’t find how to deal with ivr while calling any service provider?
I haven’t tried any advance applications. But you can imagine if basic
things were so tough what to say about advanced usage?
It is true that we can manage with touch screen, but to manage and to
enjoy both things are different.
What do you say?
Please share your experience on this subject to help me and others.
thanks.

The dialer of equal eyes is also nice!, if you install this, you also get a
host of other features along with the dialer!
I don't like DW contact as it unnecessarily pops up some messages and
prompts to go professional version of this.

2013-09-24 Thread Atul Sahay
Let's take issues one by one. The usability in open environment is
really restricted by the fact that our ability to interact through
voice gets disabled by the noise around. I faced the problem and the
solution is in using the headphone which allowed me to type etc. Use
of Fleksy was another beautiful solution to typing which I learnt from
this group and tried successfully. While I have found a few things
difficult there are also several advantages. I think we will all have
problems to begin with but once we are ahead of the learning curve, a
more accessible world awaits us. I too am trying Samsung Grand in
addition to I5 and will get back with the experience in due course.

Regards.

2013-09-24 Thread BHAVESH
Hi accessindians,

Although it may be a dis advantage for many or some of us to use a
touch screen phones, there are some advantages as well. For instance
there were many apps we couldn't use tdue to in accessibility of the
apps on the symbian with screen readers. But look at the number of
apps we can use on the IOS or on the android. Right from performing
the basic tasks, such as call managements, up to using GPS, playing
games etc. Playing games, which was not at all possible on a symbian
phone, except for those, who had Mobile spealk. So it's up to every
individual; How does he/she takes the use of touch screen. it may be
of fun for some of us, as they might feel, that using a touch screen
phone is a revolution for the blind folks. Or some may take this as
total disappointment, as they can not take full advantage of each and
every function of their phone, dispight of paying so much money, like
a customer without disability pays. This is my thinking. Please do not
take it personal.
Thanks,
Bhavesh.

I haven't had any major issue with the free version of DW Contacts, no

2013-09-24 Thread Mahesh S. Panicker
While EqualEyes has some really handy features and enhance
accessibility, I couldn't find option to customize it much. The
contact screen shows contacts from all sources, the email account
linked to the phone, phone memory, simcards and Skype. For someone
with a number of contacts that are also backed up to the email
account, this could be really difficult. On the other hand, DW
Contacts let you customize the contacts to be displayed and offers
many more features.

Re: [Mobile.AI] how to enable voice nav on google maps and mapmyindia for android 2.3.6

2013-09-24 Thread Aruni sharma
In Google maps you have to touch the navigation button, should have the
gps turned on and you will get voice guidance. You can also directly
start the navigation app and get voice directions from there.
