I have one more suggestion, on Android, we may use voice command
feature. e.g. just tap on the voice search and say call rahul
kelapure and the phone obliges. I am using MotoE, so am not very sure
whether this work effectively on earlier versions of Android or no.
This could be one more way of dealing with the issue.

Subject: [Mobile.AI] can one use touchscreen phone effectively at
 crowdedplaces?

Hi Satguru, I have changed the subject and we can discuss the matter
 here in this thread.
I am using android moto g for quite some time now. The most difficulty
I have faced with the device is that I am totally handicapped using my
touchscreen phone at crowded places, such as at railway station,
market, or if I am walking on the road.
Suppose, if I am waiting for someone at railway station or at some
busy streat, first of all I have to hold the phone with both hands,
then have to swipe number of times to get the contact of person to
 whom I want to call.
It seems very difficult specially when I am holding some luggage etc
in my hand. Even to dial the number you have to find out the digit at
the screen, than lift your finger, if some digit is entered wrongly,
find the button to delete. More over sending text messages under these
 circumstances is very very difficult.
Similar is the story when I am walking on the road and I just want to
talk to somebody or to text anyperson, I will have to stand somewhere,
find the number and then call or sms.
Over all it is very cumbersome to use touchscreen device during such
circumstances. My nokia n79 became malfunctioned last week, due to
these problems which I faced, I got my nokia repaired, and I am very
 very happy with my Symbian.
So my question is that how do you people deal with your touchscreen
phone at such places? is there any difference between android and
iPhone regarding using phone particularly at crowded places? is iPhone
 is more easy to handle?

I totally agree with saleem, I am using endroid since november 2013
initially I faced lot of problem, now it is a part of my life, don't
think only of diling receiving calls look the other advantages of
these phones. voice diler is also good option for diling calls, but
the only draw back of this aps is internet should be on.

Hi Vikas,

Thanks for your quick response, but I'm strange to the term 'encrypt'
used by you. What does it mean?

I believe from you that locking the phone will not harm the device and
it can be considered as a primary option of security.

Sorry for my ignorance and please clarify this doubt too.

On 7/24/14, Vikas Kapoor dl.vi...@gmail.com wrote:
You can activate the same feature of locking your screen by going into

want to activate this one, you then need to encrypt your android device in
which case your device may become a little slow.

 Dear Friends,

Just wanted to know whether can we put our Android device on special
 secure mode.

I have noted an aditional option on my sighted friends mobile to lock
the screen with passwords for their privacy.

If something like this is possible for us too, please share it on the list.

I would highly appreciate your any help in this matter.

2. Practice makes everything perfect! It is not at all a difficult
task to use the phone with a single hand! Even I do it!!!

Above all, as someone rightly raised, how long will you use the
outdated technology? You are doing a postmortem on a burried body...
Which would repell others from migrating to Android.

Please start using the Android and you will be wonder to use the new
technology. If one can, then why can't others? I'm certain you will

Subject: [Mobile.AI] can one use touchscreen phone effectively at
 crowdedplaces?

Hi Satguru, I have changed the subject and we can discuss the matter
 here in this thread.
I am using android moto g for quite some time now. The most
 difficulty
I have faced with the device is that I am totally handicapped using
 my
touchscreen phone at crowded places, such as at railway station,
market, or if I am walking on the road.
Suppose, if I am waiting for someone at railway station or at some
busy streat, first of all I have to hold the phone with both hands,
then have to swipe number of times to get the contact of person to
 whom I want to call.
It seems very difficult specially when I am holding some luggage etc
in my hand. Even to dial the number you have to find out the digit
 at
the screen, than lift your finger, if some digit is entered wrongly,
find the button to delete. More over sending text messages under
 these
 circumstances is very very difficult.
Similar is the story when I am walking on the road and I just want
 to
talk to somebody or to text anyperson, I will have to stand
 somewhere,
find the number and then call or sms.

Re: [Mobile.AI] can one use touchscreen phone effectively at crowdedplaces?

2014-07-25 Thread Mohib Anwar Rafel
Rahul, for using voice feature, your phone must be connected to the
internet. And here the problem will persist again because this feature
needs noise free environment to produce effective results. I use these
feature to write text messages, but all the time internet connection
is not reliable though I am using 3g service.
By the way, the debate is not limited to which platform is better, but
at the time of such urgencies, whether can u use your touchscreen
phone effectively? I read the review of one user on eyesfree list that
on her android phone she couldn't dial imergency number to police when
she needed it.

Re: [Mobile.AI] How can I lock my Android phone?

2014-07-25 Thread Vikas Kapoor
Yes you are right, screen lock is just a primary way of securing your device
against misuse. When you encrypt your phone, you would then require to enter
a numeric PIN each time you switch on your phone. That appears to be more
secured but certainly has some disadvantages: for example, You cannot
decrypt your phone once it has been encrypted except restoring it to factory
state, in which you might lose some of your data. Another thing is that once
you encrypt your phone, the device may perform a little slow. Moreover,
encrypting a device might take an hour or so.

Hi Vikas,

Thanks for your quick response, but I'm strange to the term 'encrypt'
used by you. What does it mean?

I believe from you that locking the phone will not harm the device and
it can be considered as a primary option of security.

Sorry for my ignorance and please clarify this doubt too.

If something like this is possible for us too, please share it on the
 list.

I would highly appreciate your any help in this matter.

So my question is that how do you people deal with your touchscreen
phone at such places? is there any difference between android and
iPhone

[Mobile.AI] accessible reading app with granularity options for moto G

2014-07-25 Thread Anirban Mukherjee
Dear All,

here i am back with yet another query regarding accessible reading
app. actually, i have come across a few apps from this list itself and
they are by and large accessible. the most suitable for me thus far
has been @voice aloud reader. beside that, i have the bookshare app
and so on. but my concern is neither the bookshare app nor @voice
aloud reader allows to read word by word or character by character. as
far as bookshare app Go Read is concerned, i am so far unable to
find ways to read by sentences or by lines. it only reads paragraphs
by paragraphs.

so, my question is, how to read a book in go read with granularity
options, or, is it actually possible to do so? for the books there are
in DESI format.

i have installed accessible editor but how to read .doc files through this?

i think i have asked much in it. still, i do look forward to be given
some directions in this regard.

warm greetings, Anirban Mukherjee

[Mobile.AI] Help Me to Navigate in the World of Android!

2014-07-25 Thread Zoher Kheriwala
Hello friends,
Recently I have purchased Moto g. I am already using iPhone, I did not
felt difficulty from moving from Nokia to iPhone, but I am feeling
Much troubled to use android device.
I know I will be able to use it successfully with your guidance.
The first problem I am facing is the Moto g is not quick responsive to
touch gestures as my iPhone is.
Other thing is many of times it miss interprets the gestures. Apart
from these problems I have following queries
* Why should we download dw dialer? What are the features are not
offered by a native dialer in moto g?
* Why should we have aquamail, What are the advantages it has over
native mail app?
* How to close a particular page on firefox?
* Can we navigate with Headings, Links, Form controls, Tables Lists
on a webpage?
* What should I do to get the male sound for talkback?
* What should I do to listen time and date only instead of listning to
entire status bar?
* What is the shotcut to turnoff the talkback?
* Can I put screen off when using talkback to save my battery?
* What is nova lonture, I did not found any difference on the home
screen after downloading nova lonture, phone does nothing after
clicking on nova lonture.
* How to use fm radio?
* Why there are 5 home screens can I reduce them to 1 as I don't have
much apps by now, Why all the pages shows same icons?
* How to use ok google feature?

So far this is the small list of doubt. Will ask for help if other
problems are found!
Note I am using Moto g ?With 4.4.4.
