[JOB SEEKER] mod_perl expert for hire

2001-05-02 Thread Matt Sergeant

I feel bad that, with the dot-bomb, all we see now are job seekers, not
job adverts, but here I am, in need of some work to keep food on my table.

My skills are fairly well known here. I'm an expert in XML and mod_perl. I
built the take23.org mod_perl news and resources site. And I'm the
developer of AxKit.

I'd be especially interested in AxKit and/or XML work, but I'm interested
in all comers. My full CV is available on the AxKit.org site under
examples, for those who don't know my work.

I'm mainly looking for contract work, 3 or 6 months preferably, but I'd be
willing to look at something permanent if it was a really good company.

Oh, and I'm based in Scotland, but have a leased line and permanent IP at
home.

If anyone has any spare tuits they want to donate to Take23, we have
started the job postings stuff and have a spec for exactly what we want,
but not really enough time to code it up. Experience with AxKit would be a
huge bonus, otherwise you'll be right in at the deep end.

Matt,

I've been looking at this - not alot, but a bit (as I am in the deep
end, and there is only so much XML I want at a time ;-)

A few minor issues:

Your NewsAdmin module appears to assume that all XML file under the doc
root are news XML files - how do you want to deal with this - I'll
change the last bit of the doc root (defined line 11) from news to jobs.

Also what sort of validation do you want on job posting - at the mo we
just upload a file, and edit the XML, I am happy posting jobs like this,
but what about t'others ?

I can write a kludgy form that accepts / validates input and creates
some XML as per discussions if thats what you want ?

Greg

Yes that will be necessary. We'll have a completely new module for jobs
postings.

No, I don't want job posters doing XML. I just want a simple form. Now if
they want HTML in it, it will have to be XHTML, but when they get a
preview they will see errors if its not.

[JOB] for hire

2001-01-21 Thread brian moseley

hi folks. i've recently moved to melbourne, australia, and
pretty soon now i'll be looking for consulting work.

i've been working at critical path for the last 3+ years. i
was lead developer on the cpth webmail product for the first
year, after which i joined the core architecture team whose
scope included the entire messaging platform and web
application suite. for the last several months i've been an
architect and developer for cpth's suite of integrated
collaboration apps.

i've been writing sophisticated mod_perl applications for 3
years. i'm familiar with internet messaging-related
protocols such as http, imap, smtp, ldap, icap and webdav. i
have moderate experience with database design and
programming, altho i don't claim to be an expert in
maintaining or tuning database server installations. i've
built your typical two-tier web/db sites as well as large
business applications. i've slung guns at small shops and
written heavy documents in large process-oriented
engineering dept. most importantly, i think, i've got
several years of experience shipping many releases of a
single product, from an initial release through two
re-architectures, a complete user interface redesign,
internationalization and localization to 20 languages.

i'm currently porting the java servlet api and tomcat
servlet engine to perl. if anybody wants to pay me for that,
i'd love to hear your proposal :)

otherwise, i'm interested in discussing consulting
arrangements for any type of perl-based project. if you're
in melbourne, or if you want to work out travel, on site
work is fine. telecommuting is the standard, however.

[JOB WANTED] mod_perl programmer for hire

2001-01-02 Thread chris

Thought I'd drop a note to announce my availability for either short-term
or permanent employment. FYI, I live in San Francisco and don't want to
move w/o quite a good reason, but I'll telecommute anywhere ;)

In my previous job I designed and implemented a mod_perl web application
that used an Oracle backend and could serve millions of fully dynamic
pages (personalization, affiliate branding, NLS/charset including CJKV
scripts, etc.) per day.

mod_perl specific work has included most of the good stuff from the Guide,
including (in no particular order): TransHandlers, cookie-based
authorization, templating systems, session mgmt., Apache::Registry and
pure handlers, load-balancing/proxies and related technologies, and more.

Resume and references available, just drop me a note.

Thanks,
Chris

p.s. As far as I can recall it is still ok to post this kind of thing on
this list, but it makes me a bit squeamish nonetheless--sorry for spamming
most of you.
