[MOPO] FA: One of the best groups of vintage stills we have ever offered closes in less than 13 hours; many are currently at bargain prices
This is Bruce Hershenson. I want to let you know that we have a really wonderful group of vintage stills in our auctions closing tomorrow night. *WE HAVE HAD MANY AUCTIONS OF SINGLE VINTAGE 8 X 10 STILLS OVER THE YEARS, BUT TOMORROW'S 742 STILLS ARE (to my mind) ONE OF THE VERY BEST COLLECTIONS OF SINGLE STILLS WE HAVE EVER OFFERED (we had a similar selection of 840 wonderful stills that closed on November 10th, and these are every bit as good as those!). YOU SURELY WANT TO LOOK THEM OVER IF YOU HAVE THE SLIGHTEST INTEREST IN BUYING ANY (or even if you don't, because it is a joy to window shop these wonderful stills, because many of them have extremely iconic images from the most classic of movies!). As of right now, with just over a day left there are many that are far under where you might reasonably expect them to be on any dealer's website (perhaps the reason many of these are getting overlooked is because our December 2011 Mini/Major Auction http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/15.html has already started)!* *We have * 742 vintage single 8 x 10 stills (including lots of great portraits, candids, and scenes from all years and genres, plus top stills from Best Oscar winning movies), and there are lots of wonderful ones, but also lots of inexpensive ones as well. There is just over a day to go before they start to end * TONIGHThttp://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/sort/4/14.html * Thursday, December 1st. I just looked over the current prices on these just about to end items, and the prices on many of them are really hard to believe! With just over a day to go, the 742 vintage single 8 x 10 stills include a laughable 48 that are still languishing at just $1 each or have no bid, a makes-you-want-to-cry 143 that are still languishing at just $3 each or under, a not-to-be-believed 247 that are still languishing at just $5 each or under, and a Mt. Everest-like 363 that are $7 each or under! *THAT'S RIGHT, JUST UNDER HALF ARE CURRENTLY $7 EACH OR UNDER AND ONE THIRD OF THE ITEMS ARE CURRENTLY $5 EACH OR UNDER!)!* Of course, once you get *OVER* just $7, you start hitting lots and lots of better titles, but an awful lot of those are currently at *VERY*reasonable prices, far under what some of them have sold for in the past (the ones we can find any record of selling in the past!) including: 6r017 PRINCE THE SHOWGIRL color 8x10 still #8 '57 sexy Marilyn Monroe smiling on couch in feathers 6r103 BETTIE PAGE 8x10 still '50s four sexy full-length naked portraits, standing at bar! 6r188 DORIS DAY 8x10.25 still '60 full-length wardrobe test shot by columns from Midnight Lace! 6r462 MOVE OVER, DARLING 8x10 still '64 wonderful close up smiling portrait of pretty Doris Day! 6r428 MARILYN MONROE 8x10 still '60s great image in bikini heels from Something's Got to Give! 6r427 MARILYN 8x10 still '63 incredible portrait of sexy heavy-lidded Monroe smiling! 6r083 AUDREY HEPBURN 8x10 still '50s great waist-high smiling portrait of the legendary actress! 6r269 GOLDFINGER 8x10 still '64 cool image of Sean Connery as James Bond on the 24-sheet! 6r187 DORIS DAY 8.25x10 still '60 full-length wardrobe test shot by cool curtain from Midnight Lace 6r661 TEN COMMANDMENTS candid 8x10 still '56 Yul Brynner shows his many cameras to Cecil B DeMille! 6r407 LOVE 'EM LEAVE 'EM 8x10 still '26 angry Louise Brooks w/trademark hair glares at old lady! 6r542 RAVEN 8x10 still '35 incredible image of Boris Karloff Bela Lugosi torturing Samuel Hinds! 6r489 NORTH BY NORTHWEST 8x10 still '59 Hitchcock, classic image of Grant running from cropduster! 6r616 SONG OF SONGS 8x10 still '33 beautiful Marlene Dietrich seated on stoop, Rouben Mamoulian! 6r238 FROM HERE TO ETERNITY 8x10 still '53 most classic Burt Lancaster Deborah Kerr on beach! 6r646 SUDDENLY, LAST SUMMER 8x10 still '60 classic image of beautiful Elizabeth Taylor on beach! 6r707 VERTIGO 8x10 still '58 best image of James Stewart glaring at brunette Kim Novak, Hitchcock! 6r491 NORTH BY NORTHWEST 8x10 still '59 Cary Grant Eva Marie walking on top of Mt. Re: [MOPO] Judy Lewis
Thanks, Phil. I had a magazine from when Loretta returned from the year off she took because of exhaustion and she announced that not only was she now completely fit, but that she had adopted *TWO *babies (obviously the second baby was to throw people off the real story, and I guess that second baby got returned at some point!). I got the sense reading the article that the press people knew the story and were helping Young cover it up. You sure don't see that in the media anymore! [MOPO] Damn Thats A Lot Of Money For A Comic Book
Bruce and Rich got out of comics just in time...think of the tax hassles they would have to be putting up with now. A rare and pristine copy of the first issue of Action Comics, famed for the first appearance of Superman, has set a record Wednesday for the most money paid for a single comic book: $2.16 million. The issue, graded at 9.0, was auctioned starting Nov. 11 online at www.comicconnect.com. The starting bid was just $1 but there was a reserve price of $900,000. Neither the name of the buyer nor seller was disclosed. It's the first time a comic book has broken the $2 million barrier. The issue was published in 1938 and cost just 10 cents. IN PICTURES: Monitor Political Cartoons When we broke the record in 2010 by selling the Action Comics No. 1, graded at 8.5, for $1.5 million, I truly believed that this was a record that would stand for many years to come, said Stephen Fishler, CEO of ComicConnect.com and Metropolis Collectibles. The previous record set in March 2010 was followed by the sale of another copy for $1 million. But neither of those issues was in as good a condition as the issue that sold Wednesday, though it's pedigree of setting records was already documented. Twice before it set the record for the most expensive book ever, selling for $86,000 in 1992 and $150,000 in 1997. But in 2000, it was stolen and thought lost until it was recovered in a storage shed in California in April this year. About 100 copies of Action Comics No. 1 are believed to be in existence, and only a handful of those in good condition. After it was stolen, Fishler said, collectors figured it would never be found or, worse, would be destroyed. Clearly, I was wrong. Not in my wildest imagination could I have predicted that this legendary, stolen Action Comics No. 1 would be found, graded at 9.0 and break the record a year and a half later, he said. Re: [MOPO] eBay
Hi Rich I agree with you. Its interesting that I had quite a few Offlist replies to the questions I raised on MoPo. It seems that some think that any discussion about eBay is likely to cause friction. eBay probably still is the largest marketplace for original movie posters despite the fact that they keep changing their gourndrules so I would have thought some discussion is relevant. Obviously, they are seeing some positive expectation each week, so they keep running the promotion. Because there are no parameters, you get people who might not otherwise list lots of stuff to go completely overboard, and others who want to list cheap stuff that they might not be able to justify listing fees on hundreds or thousands of items. unfortunately, most of the material listed is either just super-over priced merch, or complete garbage and it doesn't do much to get actual fair bid auctions listed. so the extra listings not only have no use to someone like myself as a buyer and actually make it completely cumbersome to sift through 500 extra pages of listings. so anything I might have been interested that was listed yesterday, in all likelihood I will miss because I'm never going to be able to get through all those pages. the people who list those useless placeholders, like svejlandusa, who apparently is here in Vegas (I do not even know who it is, nor does Cinema Collectors know) are the most aggravating because it take 15 minutes just to scroll through page after page of his non-listings I can definitely see why dealers with store might get pissed off.. you're really getting screwed monetarily AND your listings disappear in all the garbage fleaBay sucks!!
