An extremely smart piece of image manipulation and editing.
I suspect Hitchcock would have loved it.

2012-04-05 Thread David Kusumoto

Wanted to buy for MY WIFE: A DOUBLE-SIDED, unfolded IMAX version one-sheet for
the 2012 3-D release of Titanic - in very fine to mint condition. (The EXACT
image she wants - is web-hosted below). Will pay $100 for truly exceptional
condition and tough packing. (Or contact me if you have circumstances
warranting special consideration.)

Meanwhile, I saw the film w/her on Wednesday and will post my impressions of
this oft-ridiculed 1997 Best Picture winner later. Or maybe I'll just say it
was visually and emotionally spectacular, way better than I remembered by a
long-shot, a pop-culture touchstone that I've spent more than 14 years
dismissing and defending at the same time. The immersive nature of the
big-screen and the film's presentation as an old-fashioned,
golden-age-of-cinema-type-of-romance - against an epic and extremely
destructive final 90 minutes - makes a difference. I was prepared to hate and
groan during every minute. But the 3-D is the best I've seen for a picture
originally shot in 2-D - and I'd forgotten how violently thrilling and kinetic
the story becomes in its second half. In my view, the passage of time -
incredibly - has been kind to this film's many faults - and for me, was oddly
enhanced by my awareness of two extremely young actors who have since become
among the finest of their generation.

[MOPO] FA: 806 rolled one-sheets close very soon; lots of great titles rarely found unfolded, lots of low, low prices

2012-04-05 Thread Bruce Hershenson
*IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR INCREDIBLE DEALS ON UNFOLDED ONE-SHEETS (many from
the past 30 years, but including some that are much older!), THEN LOOK NO
FURTHER! I JUST LOOKED OVER THE** 999 WE HAVE CLOSING TONIGHT, AND I SAW
LOTS AN**D LOTS OF REALLY WILDLY UNDER-PRICED ITEMS, SO IF YOU LIKE THESE
AT ALL, THEN BE SURE TO LOOK THEM OVER VERY CAREFULLY, BECAUSE AS OF RIGHT
NOW, THERE ARE INCREDIBLE DEALS.

*We have* * 806 rolled (or formerly folded) 27x40 27x41 one-sheets (all
guaranteed to be originals!) at auction, and there are just 13 hours to go
before they start to end
*TONIGHThttp://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/sort/4/14.html
* Thursday, April 5th. *This is likely THE VERY BEST selection of these
posters we have EVER offered at one time!*

I just looked over the current prices on these just about to end items, and
the prices on many of them are really hard to believe! With just over 3
hours to go, the 800 items include a weird yet wacky 56 with no bid at all,
a makes-you-want-to-cry 155 that are still wilting at just $1 each or have
no bid, a truly insane 229 that are still withering at just $3 each or
under, and a Mt. Everest-like 332 that are $5 each or under! *THAT'S RIGHT,
**OVER 40%** ARE CURRENTLY $5 EACH OR UNDER,** AND 28%** OF THE ITEMS ARE
CURRENTLY $3 EACH OR UNDER**!
*

Of course, once you get *OVER* just $5, you start hitting lots and lots of
better titles, but an awful lot of those are currently at
*VERY*reasonable prices, far under what some of them have sold for in
the past
(the ones we can find any record of selling in the past!) including (the

[MOPO] BLU-RAY KING OF KINGS

2012-04-05 Thread Kirby McDaniel
I picked up the br KING OF KINGS (1961) at Frys the other day when I was buying
the new
MovieArt phones.

The transfer is magnificent. The score is one of Rozsa's best. And I always
loved Nicholas
Ray's direction and the cast. The old seducer of REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE brings
his considerable talent to tame Phillip Yordan's script. Much less ponderous
if less well-designed than
George Steven's telling of the gospel story. Derisively lampooned as I WAS A
TEENAGE JESUS,
Jeffrey Hunter is, well, beautiful as the Son of God. Supported by some really
interesting choice
actors: Viveca Lindfors, Rip Torn, Rita Gam, Robert Ryan et al. Not as classy
as BEN-HUR, of course,
but it tries. The narrator is the mellifluous Orson Welles. And the dance of
the seven veils is
performed by the late Brigid Bazlen*, whose other great moment was when she
almost dispatched
James Stewart in HOW THE WEST WAS WON, another MGM biggie.

I bought it for $15.00.

You might want to look for it on your Easter Egg Hunt.

Kirby

*Here's some stuff about Brigid Bazlen, ripped from the IMDB:

In 1958 the Blue Fairy was one of the earliest Chicago children's show produced
in color (WGN-TV, Channel 9.) Appearing in a blue gown, diamond tiara, and
clasping a silver wand, Bazlen, suspended by wires, would fly across the small
television stage, lip syncing I'm the Blue Fairy, I'll grant you a wish, to
make all your dreams come true... She then introduced stories enacted by the
Rufus Rose Marionettes. It was a short-lived fantasy series, but it inspired at
least one Ernie Kovacs sight gag. It was a direct take-off of the Blue Fairy
opening with a Kovacs twist. Mustachioed cigar chopping Kovacs in blue gown,
blond wig, holding a silver wand flew across the stage slamming headfirst into
a wall on the opposite side, then still suspended by the fly wire dangled
lifeless.

Bazlen died of cancer in 1989 at the age of 44.
Signed to an exclusive contract by M-G-M Studios in 1961 where she appeared in
only three films: King of Kings, The Honeymoon Machine, and How the West
Was Won..

2012-04-05 Thread Simon Oram
Kirby,

That is indeed a great transfer and of course a very interesting film about the
life of Jesus just as equally interesting is Pier Pasolini’s: The Gospel
According to Matthew, just out on blu-ray over here in the UK from Masters of
Cinema and an absolutely stunning transfer I was gobsmacked when I watched it
last night. This is the film the Vatican vaunted as one of it’s select films
and ironically Pasolini was an atheist, it really is worth importing.

An extremely smart piece of image manipulation and editing.
I suspect Hitchcock would have loved it.

[MOPO] Fw: [MOPO] An auction house to avoid

2012-04-05 Thread Geraldine Kudaka

- Forwarded Message -
From: Geraldine Kudaka gkud...@rocketmail.com
To: Bruce Hershenson brucehershen...@gmail.com
Sent: Tuesday, April 3, 2012 11:45 AM
Subject: Re: [MOPO] An auction house to avoid

Your favorite auction house, Bruce -- Heritage.

My husband, Charley, was a Hollywood executive. When we first did a Heritage
consignment through Rudy Franchi, everything went fine. So fine, we sent a 2nd
batch using my UPS account return label which had my name on it. I use my
maiden name, so I guess Heritage thought it was a cold submission from nobody.

Thought we'd hear from them -- nada. We are pretty busy here and knew from our
first consignment that Heritage plans their auction schedule months in advance.
When I finally called Heritage to see when the posters were going to be
auctioned. Carter told they had received the posters, and wanted to know if we
wanted to put them in the weekly auction as there was nothing of value in the
lot. I said, What? What about the Get Carter and Lennon posters? Or the
Fillmore posters? Heritage claimed they had not received these posters in the
lot we sent.

I had mentioned this event on this newsgroup before. You responded with a
derogatory comment about Rudy,  then Grey threatened us with lawyers and I
posted a comment here batting for Rudy.

At that time this was going on, I did not want to deal with Heritage because we
were building a house and had a high weekly payroll to meet. The headache of
dealing with this Heritage problem was small potatoes compared to being the
General Contractor on a house.

After Grey threatened me with lawyers and I batted for Rudy,  Rudy contacted
me. He had spoken with Grey and the upshot was we were offered a deal for
future submissions..

That was months ago.

I've come to the conclusion I don't want to do future business with Heritage.
It's one thing to have a consignment set up by Rudy for my husband, Charley
Lippincott, who had hired John Van Hammersveld to do the Get Carter poster and
has the largest, most complete collection of John's work -- even more than John
--  and another thing when little wifey using her UPS business account sends
the 2nd consignment batch. As nobody me, if posters disappeared from my lot,
who is to say that this doesn't happen to other people? On principle, I don't
want to do business with Heritage.

Life is too short, Charley's collection too huge, and it's just not worth my
time.

If Grey wants to have his lawyers come after me, fine.
