Re: [MOPO] Ebay and their offensive policy

2022-08-17 Thread Moviemem Original Movie Posters
Bruce
I still have two eBay Stores but the vast majority of my sales are through my
website which I am very thankful for. I first started selling on eBay in 1997
and have been close to closing my stores but now have compromised a bit by
using the “Time Away” holiday option regularly. That actually works OK because
it gives me regular breaks from eBay and it also makes the listings more
prominent when I end the “time away” and reopen the store.

The fees are high but the thing that I really find difficult is the Managed
Payment system. It is a nightmare for businesses to navigate when doing
quarterly tax returns and that is enough of a reason to put many sellers off
eBay altogether.

Regards

John

To all of you who still sell on eBay

I see they have raised their fees massively since my days there. Is it still
worthwhile overall selling there?

I have thousands of stills listed. On Monday Ebay knocked off an Al Jolson in
black face. I didn't have it listed as black face, but they took it off as
offensive. I can see that could be a problem so no big deal. Then today they
knocked off 3 Hattie McDaniel stills from GWTW. I am sure some could find her
role offensive, but she was a great actress playing a part, and a good part of
a strong person. I respected her acting ability. She was not a Stepin Fetchit
type of actor, even though he was playing a character. I am white, but I would
be offended that they are trying to eliminate a great respected actress from
the Golden Age.

Not trying to start a race conversation, just my rant toward the policy. Tony

2022-08-17 Thread Tom Martin
I se your point Tony however I think Theresa knee jerk reaction on all
sides in media..because of past issues..I just tried to think if my
family chichis Sicilianon dads side and Fromm Bermuda on moms a
UKisland..would I be offended.well Bermuda was the 1stplace that
Portugal used as a port for slaves in the 1500s//and they dontliketotalk
about the history all as I guess they are ashamed.. they're part fit..we
need to consider tho that jews. asians. Blacks and many races were also
slave//thepope just asked forgiveness for thenaitive Indians in Canada
as all races have been abused through themes..theones that stand
outlast 100 years seem to be the ww2 Jews..,I thinks good we honor all
races and colors and respect them and see that many were depicted in odd
ways..Black memorabilia was collected by many and agree some is
offensive that they made fun of a raceI had ww2 postcards that also
made fun Japan during ww2 so it is part of history but still could
offend..
it has become quite sensitive//my best answer is we ned to Forgive eBay
andothersocial media as they are trying to meet everyones needs and
concerns... social media has become so scary...

all the bested yes Jolson and hattie are history and should be
respected.. so perhaps there is a disclaimer they could add on items
like yours to avoid conflict

Hope that helps from a old movie guy...Iknow they renamed the Lillian
Gish theater in Bowling greens the dw Griffith Birth of a nation film
was frowned upon also forts connection to the KKK..
