[mou-net] Western Tanager at Whitetail Woods Regional Pk.
Kevin Smith just phoned to say that while doing a bird survey for Whitetail Woods Regional Park in Dakota County he found a Western Tanager. It was near the camper cabins. [mou-net] Correction: Western Kingbird, not Tanager
The bird that Kevin Smith found at Whitetail Woods Regional Pk this morning was a W. Kingbird, not W. Tanager. It flew while he was viewing it and it has not yet been refound. [mou-net] Bobolink in Shoreview
My wife Joann Pfeiffer walked the trail in Snail Lake Regional Park this morning between 7:30 AM and 8:30 AM. Just south of Gramsie Road, east of Mackubin Road, where a tunnel under Gramsie opens up to a view south of Grass Lake, she saw a Bobolink in an area where prairie is being reestablished (it's working!). Farther along the trail she saw and heard a Brown Thrasher and several warblers including Blackburnian, Wilson's and Blackpoll. [mou-net] Red-necked Grebe in Rock County
Andy Nyhus is reporting a Red-necked Grebe at the gravel pit ponds northeast of Luverne in Rock County. He found the bird around 10:00 this morning out in the middle of the southernmost pond. Also, there is a blue-phase Snow Goose in the north pond. While Red-necked Grebes aren't necessarily rare birds in southwest Minnesota, this appears to be the first record for Rock County.
