[mou-net] Request for assistance - recordings of migrating Mourning Warbler songs
(Posted by Jay Pitocchellivia moumn.org) I am writing once again to post an opportunity to participate in a Citizens Science Project that involves recording migrating Mourning Warbler songs. I am interested in whether different song populations of Mourning Warblers (Western, Eastern, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland) migrate together or separately to their respective areas of the speciesâ breeding range. All you need is a smartphone with a voice recording app and some luck. The web page link below describes the project and how to make recordings on your Smartphone in more detail. There is also a link to the map with last yearâs results based on recordings from many volunteers. http://www.anselm.edu/homepage/jpitocch/ornithology/MOWAmapper/MOWASongmapper.html Please send song recordings to the Mourning Warbler Sound Lab (jpitocchATanselm.edu). I would really appreciate your help and contributions to this Citizens Science Project. [mou-net] Detroit Lakes Area Birding
Apologies - I changed my email address and somehow the message was jumbled. Not the most tech-savvy person. Here it is in a more clear form. Thanks, Fr. Paul *** Hello birders, The Star Tribune had a nice feature today on the upcoming Detroit Lakes Bird Festival. Unfortunately I can't make it to the festival, but I was hoping to get some bird photographs from the area around the same time. I've never birded this part of the state, so was hopeful someone who is familiar with the area could give me a favorite spot or two for a one night, two day trip. (Birding afternoon one day, morning to mid-day the next). Right now based on the guides I've found online, my plan would be to spend the late afternoon at Hamden Slough, and the following morning at Tamarac NWR. My main interests are warblers of any kind and shorebirds along with waterfowl. I'd heard that Agassiz could be good to for owls, especially a SEO, but I did not see it listed on the field trips for the festival so am not sure if it's worth driving up there too? Thanks for any helpful information. Hopefully the Hamden-Tamarac plan is good for warblers, but if I'm missing anything please let me know. Not sure if Blackburnian nest there or not, that's a favorite bird. Enjoy migration and thanks for the help! Fr. [mou-net] Great Horned Owl young/Hennepin County
Hi All— Photographs of two of three juvenal Great Horned Owls on my blog this morning: http://dantallmansbirdblog.blogspot.com. They are probably about six weeks old. The birds are on private property near Lake Girard Park in Bloomington. Does anyone have an idea about the size of the eyes of the owl on the right? They seem exceptionally large. Erika thinks its just that that bird is awake, while the other may be dozing. Or is it that the right-hand owl is less well fed? dan -- Dan or Erika Tallman Northfield, Minnesota daner...@gmail.com http://dantallmansbirdblog.blogspot.com " the best shod travel with wet feet...Beware of all enterprises that require new clothes ”—H.
