[mou-net] green laser pointer
I am just beginning to research using a green laser pointer in birding and wonder what suggestions others may have about brands/web sites to consider. The goal is to be able to quickly/briefly point near a specific bird for my partner to locate with minimal disruption to the bird. Is there anything available that is reliable but less than $100 (zbolt). Much appreciation for any help and ideas. Re: [mou-net] Flashlight suggestions
Holy cow! I have gotten some great backchannel suggestions. If people are interested, I can provide a summary once they all seem to be in. I suppose I should have better clarified that I am an avid owl watcher and I am looking for something that I can use not only when I walk my dogs at night, but a flashlight that will throw a long, focused beam (spot) as opposed to a broad beam (flood). Ideally it would have additional colors as options, like red and green, but not a must. I have a large spot light and while it works great, it's awkward to carry. I also have several relatively useless flashlights that I use when I walk my dogs at night, but I would love to pitch these and just have one that I can use, as we have lots of wooded areas I walk my dogs around in the evening. I will certainly take a look at the suggestions provided thus far, but I am open to more now that I have done a better job with the specifics. Thanks a bunch for the help and ideas! cj ______ Cindy Johnson, PsyD Licensed Psychologist 2006 1st Ave, Suite 205 Anoka, MN 55303 Office: 763-421-8274 ext. 1 Fax: 763-421-8174 www.childpsych.biz www.thepsycwriter.com <http://www.childpsych.biz/> *P** **Please consider the environment before printing this e-mail.* DISCLAIMER: The confidential information accompanying this transmission contains protected health information under state and federal law and is legally privileged. [mou-net] wildlife rehab question
In Wabasha, MN birding this weekend. Found kildeer while walking, looked weak, was walking and falling over. Not doing typical predator display, not calling out. Clearly not healthy. Not headed to the cities till Sun, does any one know of a wildlife rehab down in this area? [mou] Re: Varied Thrush
Can someone provide more specific details on location. I just picked up on this thread and would like to try to see the bird this weekend. When tends to be the best times and where? Cindy Johnson linda wrote: I was fortunate enough to see the varied thrush just a short time ago, at about 2:45, at the Edgecumbe and Eleanor site. It is truly a lovely creature--and a lifer for me. The homeowner had introduced herself to me a couple of days ago, and is most gracious about having folks park beside her yard. Since it's an unfenced yard on an inclined street, one can park near the SE corner (her property) of the intersection, and have a nice view of the feeder area in her backyard, while remaining discreetly in the car. I've brought her some mealworms, grapes, and dried cherries to feed, and plan to bring more. The bird is surely "making the rounds" in this well-appointed neighborhood because as she says, he looks healthy and well-fed. She said he's appearing regularly for short forays. If everyone uses restraint about driving-speed, parking places, and duration, many people should be able to see the bird, without disturbing the neighborhood.
