[Mpls] Kondirator
Valdis should read the appeals court decision beforew he brands the Kondirator case as unwinnable. My apologies for maligning Barb Johnson, who tells me she did vote to appeal the decision to the Supreme Court. The contributions from Isaacs and the changed Republican votes were in the Legislature. Re: [Mpls] Kondirator
Phylis, Before you go and list a group of individuals who are "villains (or dupes)" because they fight unwinable fights that waste the tax payers money and get us nowhere - look at what you are doing. To waste all of our time to force elections (preceded by hearings, motions, maneuvering, publishing costs, mailing costs, etc.), only to find that the city charter needs to be fixed to remedy the situation is beyond wasteful and irresponsible. You are a state rep.. Stick to fixin' the state's problems and not dictating to the City what we need to do. And by the way - are you suggesting that we remove the DFL machine base in the city council as they were the "villains (or dupes)" that caused this debacle?!! Was the council not lead and dominated by your DFL party? Perhaps if we had more independent leadership, unbridled by party politics, we would have better government "of the people, by the people, for the people." Instead of party bickering. It was most prudent to settle an un-winable case. Thanx to those who did what they had to do on behalf of the City. I am sure it was no joy. My faded memory recalls Sandra Hillary, my CM at the time, getting us in up to our ears in potential Kondidator noise. Then Joe Biernat show boating with City money, to fight an un-winable fight. Perhaps he hoped he could get the DFL Machine to fix the court outcome? Concurrently, he was allowing Graco to despoil the opposite river edge with a HUGE and unsightly industrial expansion on the Eastern shore at West Bro. If anybody else has proper info on shoreline stuff; bring it on. Keith Reitman NearNorth TEMPORARY REMINDER: 1. Send all posts in plain-text format. 2. [Mpls] Kondirator
The saga continues. Excellent story by Steve Brandt in today's STrib. (I couldn't get to the exact link but others can try by going to www.startribune.com and then to the metro section and then find AIS story.) My prediction years ago that the Kondirator would never be built looks better and better. The villains (or dupes ) in this story are the Republican legislators, (after $40,000+ in campaign contributions,) along with Gov. Arne Carlson who would not pass legislation to stop the project and council members who allowed the Isaacs to rip off $8.5 million from city taxpayers by not appealing a court decision to the Supreme Court. Those who are left (Not resigning or defeated) and who voted badly include Paul Ostrow, Barb Johnson, Lisa Goodman, Sandy Colvin Roy, Barrett Lane. I don't know about Dean Zimmerman and I'm sure if my list is wrong some one will tell me. The only bright spot is that we get the river back but it sure would be nice to have the $8.5 million now. Re: [Mpls] Kondirator and the DOE's plan for radioactive steel
I said it at the zoning and planning hearing as the DOE meeting was going on. The AIS lawyer then pointed to some statement in the EAW which prohibits radioactive material. But as I understand it, this DOE proposal may remove the title "radioactive" from the metal waste and this would become a likely loophole for the Isaacs family with their less than distinguished record of public-spiritedness to pursue. It was interesting to note that the "competent" city staffer didn't know that by state law radioactive material is specifically excluded from the definition of hazardous waste. Jim Niland was the only member of the committee who was even willing to pursue the topic after I brought it up.
