I also mailed him, but he didn't even answer. Do you know is the problem
in the step-motor of disc or the circuitry of hard disk (I believe
that circuit board has crashed...)?

The circuitry can be changed from another disc which is same kind as the
damaged. If I could get the needed information from the disk I could
try to find another one for spare parts.

Well, circuit board can be changed when you know what to do, but opening
of the disk requires _good_ clean places...

Hmm, that sounds bad... :-(

I already proposed him to make use of such a company's services in case he
makes an incredible lot of money with Shape 9 ;-) (No reply on that, by
the way... I guess he is very busy!)

Best regards,

I already offered help when I first learned of his harddisk problem. However,
the harddisk doesn't even spin, so there is nothing I can fix with sector
editing (that was what I hoped for).

There are companies that specialise in data recovery, but they are very
expensive. And without proper tools, you don't have a chance.

Of course. Read all info on http://parallax.shape9.nl/
If anyone could help him to get the info from his harddisk, the game will be
finished.

It seemed to be a great game...

] Yep... They are used inside TAR files as well
According to an older colleague of me, octal numbers where popular in the
70's. Back then, some larger systems worked with 12-bit words. When using a
12-bit word, octal is a very nice fit, since you can put exactly 4 octal
digits in 12 bits (remember: an octal number is 3 bits).

However, on 8-bits and on 16-bits systems, octals are not so convenient to
use, for obvious reasons.

Kind regards,
Alex Wulms
